weight gain after stomach virus?

Tuesday, the scale showed 138 lbs. I came down with an awful stomach virus on Wednesday - couldn't keep anything down. I only ate a few crackers and drank a 12 oz. gatorade and water. Thursday, I was feeling a bit better, but still didn't eat very much. I was able to drink another 12 oz. gatorade, water, and eat chicken noodle soup, crackers, and ginger snaps. Both days, I was well under calorie goal.

I stepped on the scale Friday, and the scale is up to 143 lbs! I am not worried, as I know that I didn't actually GAIN weight with my stomach virus. I'm just curious what is causing the big change, especially when I hardly ate anything.

Over the course of two days, I drank 24 oz. of gatorade. So, is this water retention due to the sodium? It just seems like an awful lot of gain for hardly any food!

It could be about a gazillion things. Maybe your lighter weigh in you were a little dehydrated...maybe you had less waste in your system...maybe your glycogen stores were depleted. Even though you weren't eating a whole lot, you probably weren't doing a whole lot...so stuff like Gatorade is going to replenish glycogen and fluids, etc.

Really, it could be anything. Normal and natural daily fluctuations can easily be 3-5 Lbs day to day just normally.
