Does anyone on here use whole psyllium husk?

What is the recommended dose per day?

Is it ok to take 12g with breakfast or is this incorrect?

I'm aware of the need to increase water intake.

Thanks for any advice in advance,

Jo

Psyllium Husk is an insoluble fibre and your gut bacteria and digestion doesn't really do much with it. It's pretty much an inert polysaccharide.

If you opt for the psyllium seed powder you may find it more beneficial. It's a soluble fibre, which means your gut flora will benefit from you eating it as it is a probiotic.

Sorry but I'm not sure of the doses for the psyllium husk.
  • It's not harmful in any dosage, as it is inert. That said, too much can cause stomach pains and poop problems, especially if you don't take in enough water. I am taking about 4 tablespoons of it in the morning, which is definitely enough for me, but you may have to experiment.

As an insoluble fiber, all it will do is make your stool bulkier and easier to pass, but that's kind of the whole point of it, right?

Thanks, I was asking simply because I do not go to the loo that often...perhaps once every 10 days (sorry if tmi lol).

Quite a few ppl on the boards were saying how fantastic whole psyllium husk is but it seems my insides must be dead cos nothing has changed for me.

Hydrate more, and increase your fiber. I'd be dead if I went ten days without pooping.

I add 2 tsp of psyllium powder to the morning protein shakes to raise my fiber intake a bit. I eat a lot of greens so it's just an add-on.

Sometimes insoluble fibre can cause more non poop issues.

Try eating some more soluble fibre. Also a good amount of fat in your diet can help the poop issue.

    Hydration is a good thing.

I prefer the whole husks to the powder, but the effect is largely the same. I go with 2* tablespoons, which typically are slightly heaping. I don't take it daily, but rather it's more "when I remember to take it."
