I recently lost a close friend to breast-cancer, so wanted to send everyone a reminder to get your Mammograms and do those monthly breast self-exams. I just got my mammo results and happy to have a clean bill of health. I know it's not always the most pleasant experience, but, the piece of mind is priceless.

Funny how you posted this today. I just got mine today. I've had "abnormal" ones in the past & a biopsy b4. Not fun. But I sleep better knowing I'm okay. So yes, ladies, do it!! :flowerforyou:

My mom had her annual one last March/early April and they found an abnormally that was cancer...very early, classified as Stage Zero once the lumpectomy was done. It pays to have them on time! She just did some radiation and was off of "active" treatement by Labor Day (Early September).

    So sorry for your loss.
  • my grandmother is a survivor. I dont remember what stage she was in but they told her it was the worst stage there was. they have found lumps in my mothers breasts now but were unsure if its breast cancer yet.

I'm not quite at the age to do the mammograms (I believe it's 30, correct me if I'm wrong) but I still check for lumps and abnormalities once a month in the shower, since I don't know much about my father's side of the family. Thank you for the reminder, it is an important message.

    And incredibly sorry your loss.

SO sorry for your loss. I've always been super careful about this and had a baseline mammogram done at age 35 for future reference. My best friends mom died when we were 10 years old. I saw how hard it was for her to grow up without a mom. Her mom found the lump and waited over a YEAR to go to the doctor...it was too late by then.

The recommended age to begin is 40. I started the year my mom died of breast cancer (she was 62 and had skipped 2 years of screening; I was 37). I'll die sometime, but I'd prefer it to be in a freak circus elephant accident....

As a man I always say SAVE THE TA'S TA'S. As a son that lost his mum to breast cancer, I say, girls don't neglect those check ups.

I am walking breathing proof it can happen at any age...I was 26 when I found a tumor on my right breast in June of 2010 - been thru surgeries, chemo and still have 8 radiation treatments to go....but I am alive and kicking and able to be with my two young kids everyday...and I thank God all the time that I did my self exams...it literally saved my life!

Wow - So glad you were able to catch this early and hope you have a good outcome. That is SO young to have this happen, and I feel for you.

Sorry for your loss. I have lost countless friends and family to cancer. But happy to know my mom is a 21 year breast cancer survivor!
