The protein allotments are low on MFP, so eating over your protein grams is best.

If you're using default numbers MFP has protein set to 15% which is way low. I had to bump mine to 30% to get the 0.5 gram per pound of body weight I wanted for protein... yes that means 150 grams of protein a day :P

Wait, this must mean something is probably entered wrong. All calories should either come from carbs, fat, or protein, so those three subtotals combined should equate to the total cals (carbs x 4 + protein x 4 + fats x 9). I know rounding issues in MFP's calculations can result in slight differences in total cals vs totals of the 3 macros, but it shouldn't be a big difference.

But, yes, protein is always a safe choice to get good cals from.

This happened to me a week ago! And, you want protein because it's the building blocks of lean muscle mass, it regulates the distribution of carbohydrates into your system, and helps maintain low water retention. I set mine to 30% and have felt great.

When in doubt, I go for protein.

You want protein to be higher because there are no negative side effects from having too much protein. Too much fat or carbs on the other hand is bad.
