Snack ideas for kids?

You guys are always so full of great ideas that I thought I hope you can help me out. I am out of ideas on what to feed my kids when it comes to lunch/snack times. Right now they pretty much live off of deli meat (turkey), fruit and berries, veggie, rice and graham crackers, jam sandwiches, and homemade muffins. I give them veggies constantly, but after one lick or a chew and spit they are thrown out.

Ideas anyone? All snacks have to be dairy, soy and nut free.

Watermelon. My kids ate a whole half by themselves.

String cheese, I know my son likes that. He also likes to eat those yogurt tubes.

Check out Jessica Seinfeld's book "Deceptively Delicious". It is a recipe book filled with ideas of how to hide vegetables in meals. It is geared toward children. Not sure how well it will meet your dietary restrictions but she has recipes online if you want to start there.

She also has a series of books called "Sneaky Chef." I have one geared toward kids and one toward adults (aka husbands). They have some really great recipes and I have hidden veggies in food for my husband, son, and party guests. No one was the wiser.

what kind of veggies are you trying to give them, i would encourage you to continue offering them as it takes several tastes before they like them, especially if they are not used to the flavor or texture, also try finding a way to be creative with them, for example rolling them up in pinwheels, or cold veggie pizzas (not sure about your dairy restriction on those). Another option is kabobs, my kids will eat anything on a kabob, whether it is lunchmeat, pickle, cheese (i know no dairy) or various fruits, or different veggies, especially if I let them help me skewer them (depending on how old your kids are). Good luck

I have the Sneaky Chef books and used to use them quite a bit, I will have to pull them out again, I forgot all about them. I know i had a hard time with quite a few of the recipes because they use cheese to mask the flavor of the veggies. I get groceries next week, i will have to get the stuff for the purees again. Thanks for the reminder!

We have some food allergies too. My boys (toddlers) especially like hummus, sunbutter dip (just mix in a little honey), and also coconut yogurt. We eat a lot of fruit, too.

try putting your vegetables in the muffins - like chocolate chip zuchinni muffins, carrot muffins with a little cool whip on top, pumpkin raisin muffins, etc.

my kids like to dip stuff so i usually give them celery/carrots with hummus. other ideas are greek yogurt and fruit, veggie straws, homemade granola bars.

I didn't even know that coconut yogurt exists. I am going to look for that! My middle daughter can have soy and loves soy yogurt, but then she feels the need to feed it to her little brother who can't have it, so we stopped buying it.

We do make zuchinni and carrot muffins already, and the kids do love them. I never thought of pumpkin muffins, thats a great idea.

Dipping isn't huge in our house. Painting with the dip is though.

The one we buy is made by So Delicious -- they make icecream, too.

Depending on how young your little ones are....my daughter always loved "Rabbit Rolls". I'd make up some deviled egg with fat free mayo and give her the bowl and some romaine lettuce leaves and toothpicks. She'd put some on a lettuce leaf, roll it up and stick it together with a toothpick. We talked about how much little bunnies would love them...she still talks about how much she liked them and she's 20 years old.

i have a bunch but one of my girls favorite snacks are
    banana`s cut up (coin slice)
add pd to make little sandwitches
then roll in rice crispy cereal

they are messy with smaller kids but yummy and pretty healthy also :)

Don't know if meals are an issue for you, but my kids loved homemade pureed beef soup [they never knew what veggies they were eating because they couldn't identify them individually. That way, they never developed a yuck! response. Beef stock, pan fried ground beef, sauteed onion [gives them more flavour], carrots, a little potato, celery, green beans, a handful of barley. Simmer for an hour or so and puree in batches. Freezes really well and is good for quick dinners.
