What is an HRM and what does it do? What would I do with it?

HRM = heart rate monitor, and I use one to get an exact count of the calories I've burned. It takes the guesswork out of it, so I highly recommend one!

    forerunner 305

This one is easy to get the HRM going. You just put the chest strap on. (I recommend getting the place where it touches your skin damp first.) It should automatically pick up the reading from the chest strap. The 305 doesn't keep track of calories but is a good tool to see if you're pushing yourself too hard or should push harder.

So is there an HRM that tells you how many calories you are burning while working out?

FairyMiss - Does the FT7 have an armband or chest strap? Does it make a difference, either of the two?

chest strap, makes big diffrence , my first hrm was a sportline watch only type,

the ft7 is a lot more accurate and easier to use you dont have to stop and touch it
