feeling sick after a workout. Any tips on how to prevent it or get over it? I'm newly rededicated to fitness and just did an intense (for me) tae bo workout. I only made it 20 out of 60 minutes. I also drink plenty of water, and had fiber plus cereal and coffee 2 hours before my workout.

you could try a protein snack right before exercising so that you've got fuel for the workout and then another protein snack right after (like maybe protein shakes, half a protein bar etc etc. anything to fuel your workouts and then help recover after). I've never had this problem though myself... good luck!

You might just have to cut back a little more until you get use to it. I understand wanting to just jump right into it, but if it makes you sick, then it's not going to do you any good. Maybe just try 10-15 minutes for a few days then you can slowly work your way up to longer times.

Try eating a banana half an hour before, or just after, a workout. It's a good source of energy and potassium. Also, work up to the intense workouts - don't try to do it all at once! Your body will be struggling if you've tried to accelerate it from 0 to 100 miles an hour immediately! I know it sounds weird, but you may also be drinking too much water, which won't be helping the nausea and dizziness. You'd have to be drinking a lot more than 2litres a day for this to be likely, but it's something to be aware of.

I am not an expert - but my thought is that you already burned most, if not all, of that fiber cereal before your intense workout.

I would eat a little closer to time for your workout and then again after as Starlage suggested - then if it still happens get checked out.
  • I agree that you need something a few minutes before. I have half a banana and it helps me with feeling weak, etc. Also agree that building up to the more intense workout is best. Great decision to start again! Good luck and keep it up! : )

TaeBo can get pretty intense., I know because "i'm a TaeBo junkie". If you need to take breaks during the workout, do so. Don't try to overwork yourself, because you won't achieve any quicker results by pushing your body when it doesn't want to. Drink plenty of fluids, dehydration can cause dizziness and make you nauseous, also caffeine its great if you're used it before a workout, it tends to give you a sparks, but some people get really dehydrated from it, so drink water or some electrolytes during the workout. Listen to your body. Give your body time to build up to the fitness level, don't try to come back all at once....GOOD LUCK!

It's because of low blood sugar or volume depletion (not drinking enough water). The former is more likely. Your "fiber cereal" probably has a very high glycemic index, and most of the carbs you got from it were long gone by the time you started working out. Try eating natural starches instead. or eat some fast acting carbs right before your workout.

I know how you feel, I've had some pretty severe nasea and dizziness after intense HIIT workouts in the past. One time I could barely walk afterward I was so light headed. Fortunately I felt fine after eating some French fries and having a soda.

I'm a big proponent of a chocolate protein shake with peanut butter and banana going into the gym. Keeps me going for my entire workout which is anywhere from 90-150 minutes.
