I was thinking yesterday about how I would like to host different run/walks to help raise money for cancer, breast cancer, and kids etc. My question is: Has anyone ever done anything like this? If so how did you go about it? I'm sure you can't just throw a race out there correct? I would assume that there are certain rules and regulations that you would have to follow? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have set one up for a school and would happy to give some pointers. The first step would be to decide on who it is benefiting and contact them. You also need to contact the city. You have to get approval if it is going to be run on any roads or a city park. If you have a local running club they should also be able to help you out.

It would probably be helpful also if the beneficiary was a registered charity and get them on board so you can issue tax receipts.
