Bro... What ya Benchin??
I think we have heard this time and time again.. It seems that the epitome of strength is who can Bench the most!!! Oh man this is a load of garbage!!!!
I was speaking to my Cousin last night who was telling me he can bench 85+ kgs, But when I asked him his other strength he was like na I just concentrate on building strength, by this he means he is just trying to increase his bench press and not a whole lot more.. He cant even do a simple unassisted dip or Chinup..
I may not be able to Bench anywhere near that much, but my all round Body strength is way more advanced than what he has. I am doing 30-40kg added weight dips and now adding weight to my widegrip pullups. Too me this is what strength and fitness is..

Sad really..........I haven't tried to see what my max bench is in years.
Dont care.
Deadlift is the real measure of a man anyway, everyone knows that.........0 -
I was maxing out at just under 350, but after losing the weight?
280... :grumble:
I've lost so much strength, but it's still nice being fit.0 -
HA HA. Thats why I train Squat, Bench & Deadlift. Although, I love the bench the most. Its the one all the idiots use to compare and the only one I am REALLY good at. They say "I got my bench to 250, its a pretty good bench."... so did I. So then I make regular babies cry
If they only used their brains, trained other parts of their bodies and thought about how bench is only one of many ways to measure... 0 -

Couldnt agree with you more! My gym is full of people who just come in sit on the bench for an our, maybe do a few biceps curls then bugger off... It honestly just makes them look like they have no idea what they are doing0 -
I don't max 1 rep often, last week though, I did hit 285 for 3 reps0

Bench: 220lbs....what really sad is I can bench that, but I can only do like 12 chin-ups and I want to die!0

I'm currently 78kg and can bench 95kg.
However, I only do bench every now and then to check progress. As I do iron distance triathlons I tend to focus more on bodyweight explosive exercises like muscle ups and levers for upper body strength.0 -
I'm a certified wimp but I will be changing that now that I have the equipment to do so. I just want every day stuff to be easier, throw my growing boys around without wrecking my back. :-P and basically not turn into one of the bottom heavy pears that run in my family.0
