Ok so I searched for this answer and did not find it on here...Im sure it has been asked and I was just not doing it right. So what I want to know is does a heart rate monitor tell you how many calories you burned for a work out or does it just tell you your heart rate? I have heard Polar are the best and I am looking into those. I have seen that there are different kinds that you can either wear a strap with or just touch to keep track of your heart rate....but once I have the number, like say it tell me my heart rate is 120 BPM during a workout, what then? Does it tell many how many calories I burned at that heart rate? Or do I have to do something else to figure it out.....also I wanna know what monitor do you all think is the easiest to use with the least amount of parts or messing with to track. Also for around $60ish???

I have a Polar FT4....it gives me both my heart rate and my calories burned. I accidentally purachaed a different Polar HRM before this one, i think it was like a FT2 or something, realized that one only gives you your heart rate so you'd have to do a calculation to find out your calories burned, so i quickly returned it and got my FT4 which i love! it comes with a chest strap that you wear under your clothes...and most of the time i can't even tell it's on :) hope this helps a little :)

I have the Polar FT7. It tells how many calories burned during a workout. I wouldn't recommend one without a strap they are not as accurate.

This is the one I am looking at. It is the FT4...so I guess that's the same as yours cmg4721? It seems like it would be what I am looking for...

Yes the HRM tells you how much time you exercised, calories burned, how long your hr was in different zones. Well that's what mine does and I have a sportline cardio for women I think 680. Got it for xmas so not sure of the price but I thk it was $35-45. Told my hubby not to spend much but I can't say for sure. Also be sure to get one with chest strap for accuracy
