LOL no.
But seriously, here's a video I'd like to share for the nerds. This is Alan Aragon and here's a good (and recent) video discussion regarding Lustig's 60-minute interview.
This is a discussion about Lustig's claims.
This video has foul language as it's Ian (JB from bb.com) interviewing him and he just sort of says what he wants. But it contains exceptional information.
As a side note, I'd recommend checking out Ian's other vids. He's got some great stuff.

Here's his old blog post regarding Lustig as well, but the video is very, very recent:

You see in the beginning where Ian takes a shot at people that believe in BCAAs? Well that leucine study that is selling Xtend was conducted by Layne Norton, another respected name in the sports nutritional industry. There is always going to be an opposing opinion. If their were no opposing opinions then there would be no advances in science because no one would test and innovate new protocols. So you kind of have to use only about 60% science and about 40% actual true life experience. Theories need to be tested to see if they're actually applicable in real life.0

With no disrespect to Layne (he's a phenomenal athlete and a brilliant guy) he also works for a supplement company, doesn't he?
I'll go watch that beginning segment again now that you mention it.
EDIT: Ah, his Leuceine comment.0 -
Yeah I think he's with Scivation. I do watch Ian and a lot of what he says falls in line with what I already employ so it works out.0

The oft referenced but never published BCAA study done by Scivation I'll listen to most of what Layne recommends but always take his BCAA recommendations with a grain of salt0 -

^ Honestly this is the same boat I'm in. I was even trying Layne's PHAT program for several weeks and I think he's a beast, I just don't quite trust his BCAA studies.0 -

If I'm not mistaken he recommends BCAA supplementation between meals vs pre/post/intra, but all in all he's a pretty brilliant guy.0 -
I was hoping for a picture of a giant bag of sugar crushing someone. I'm disappointed.0

And the bolded part, IMO, is key. A lot of studies on BCAA and even protein, are only looking at acute effects and not looking at overall results over longer time periods. I think we agree on this, and I challenge you to a pullup contest.0 -

If you're doing them one handed, I withdraw my challenge because.. *cough*...*cough*... oh look, I think i've got a cold.0 -

\the test subjects in that sugar study that was on 60 minutes didn't exercise and consumed 25% of their daily cals from sugar. That's a very one sided study with bad methodology.
Abso-freaken-lutely, but when the segment ran on 60-minutes, my understanding is that these details weren't exactly explained, which is why people at the surface will see Lustig and think sugar is a poison, without knowing how ridiculous the study and it's outcomes were.0 -

Brilliant video.
Wasn't it though!?
Will watch again.
Strong Alan jaw. I'm going to ask him if he does jaw lifts.0 -
And consuming at maintenance, there have been other studies that had high sugar consumption with subjects in a hypocaloric state and LDL decreased among other things0 -
So when are you boys going to start making out? This post has turned into quite the love fest.0

Bookmarked, I only had a hard copy. Also the test subjects in that sugar study that was on 60 minutes didn't exercise and consumed 25% of their daily cals from sugar. That's a very one sided study with bad methodology.
Yet we have more food fearing individuals on MFP than I have seen anywhere else. People on here are convinced that the medical community is flawless and their deductions from studies are always accurate. Yet we have someone like Lustig who draws preposterous conclusions from such a lop-sided study and it shows us why we all need to take a critical position when accepting information.
Also, I think Ian is awesome. So many people hate on the kid but he's provided a lot of great information. I wish his stuff was on audio, though, and that way I can listen to it while I'm bussing around.0 -
