Have you ever done this?
I just wrote this in my blog.... and am so shocked with myself I figured I'd put it here and get some feedback from you guys as well. Have you ever actually sat down and done a comparison of your "food life" before you began your healthier ways of eating compared to now??
OK, so perhaps I was a little bored this morning....
I made 2 food diary entries using yesterdays and today's dates with a typical days worth of what I would have eaten before my food lifestyle change back in 2006.
One day was a croissant sandwich & cranberry juice for breakfast, chicken caesar salad wrap, cookies and chocolate milk for lunch, shake 'n bake pork chops, asparagus and alfredo noodles for dinner, and a nectarine and rice krispies treats for snacks - drinking orange tea with most meals and as a snack throughout the day.
The next day was home made french toast with cinnamon sugar and OJ for breakfast, a frozen lasagne and tea for lunch, and pasta with meatsauce for dinner- I'd often get a Sobe drink in the afternoon and have ice cream before bed as a snack- and of course, drink more tea!
Both days came in at almost 4000 calories and 130/135 grams of fat!!! It is no wonder I was 50 pounds overweight (and rising) My portions were huge, my snack choices were poor... I drank way too many empty calories and I NEVER exercised! I am really surprised I wasn't much much bigger when I look at it on paper. What I wrote down was only an estimate, there were many days that I KNOW I ate more than that... I honestly NEVER thought about calories or fat or portion size or anything. I ate when I was hungry until I was full, I ate what tasted good and was fun to eat - nutrition wasn't even an afterthought!
Wow.... just WOW!
Even though I feel like sometimes now my choices aren't so great, looking at this reminds me that my "bad days" now are not even close to what an average day was for me back then - I may not be perfect but I definitely have improved my food choices for life. I would NEVER eat that way every day again- I am educated and know better

oh trust me, you're not the only one who's done that. there's this show on the BBC america channel called you are what you eat, and they show people everything they've eaten in the last week all at once, it's scary and it usually takes more than one table.0
