I'm new to HIIT and just wondering how I should structure my workouts.

I have a treadmill so I was going to use that for HIIT following the workout described at muscle media http://musclemedia.com/training/hiit_table.asp
But I'm also doing C25K (week 2 day 2) and wondering if that is not a little redundant?

Any recommendations would be welcome :flowerforyou:

HIIT training will help you with c25k actually. If you do it right and use a treadmill for your HIIT routine, you can replace c25k with 4 days of HIIT training as most of the c25k is based around increasing your VO2 Max (even though they don't explicitly say that) Your "wind" or oxygen levels and lung capacity are a major reason why you can't do a 5K but with a good HIIT training routine, you will increase your VO2 Max by up to 10% a month for the first 3 months or so (then it drops but...). One caviat, if you're truly training for a 5K and not just trying to increase your running ability then I would keep 1 distance day in your routine as well (I.E. 3 HIIT days and 1 distance day in the middle followed by a rest day)

    Thanks Banks.
I confirmed this with my PT today who felt that 45 minutes was plenty today and let me wrap up my hour with core and stretching. I was drenched and my heart ready to explode (but it may have been caused by my daughters getting me all heated and stressed too:mad: :explode:  )
Not sure how I'll get thin with all this cortisol running through my body thanks to my kids...:grumble:

I do HIIT a lot! i love hit i"m built like a power and strength athlete but because of my hiit training i have an excellent VO2Max!!

The most simple style HITT that I do is on a treadmill. I run at 6mph for 5mins then walk up an incline or 10-15% for another 5mins. This varies my HR from about 147-185(at the highest). I LOVE THIS!! and I too can run a fairly decent 5k because of HIIT!!
