My Brief review, criticism & recommendation of Insanity - "P

I'll answer the big question right away that people who know me have on their mind.... No! I couldn't keep up!
Yesterday I tried Insanity for the first time. I picked the workout that I keep hearing is the most difficult workout of the Insanity program. The main body of the workout is a 20 minute block of hi intensity endurance training without any breaks. That main 20 minute block of pure cardio is probably more difficult than any single 20 minute block of any of the p90x workouts. As a whole workout P90X is more challenging because those exercises truly are anaerobic (usually only 30 seconds to one minute per exercise to achieving momentary muscular failure rather than 20 minutes). The P90X workouts are also much longer so there is more volume than the pure cardio workout of Insanity.
Insanity certainly has a role in extreme fitness and pushing ones limits. I am an EXTREMELY fit guy in all areas of fitness including muscular endurance which insanity seems to place more emphasis on. In the main 20 minute block of the Insanity workout I only lasted about 12 minutes til I could no longer keep up! I still kept moving but I was not moving nearly as fast as the people in the video for the remainder of the workout. Next time I will take little breaks and come back with more force.
My only criticism of the pure cardio workout is the lack of cool down. They demonstrated a sudden abrupt stop, some even collapsing to the floor, skipping over an appropriate cool down going straight into a really nice stretch routine. I HIGHLY recommend pausing here and gradually bringing your heart rate down before stretching. Abruptly stopping vigorous exercise all together has a tendency to invoke blood pooling in the lower half of the body. The blood pooling decreases venous return to the heart which in turn creates less cardiac output. The heart then has to compensate by pumping out more blood (in an already high blood pressure status) to supply the oxygen demands of the fatigued cells of the body. That's never a good idea even if it's in a beachbody program.
Even with my one criticism I HIGHLY recommend Insanity for those who are in GREAT cardio respiratory shape who want to enjoy a new challenge. Mark my words Insanity will wipe you out regardless of how great a shape you are in going into the program. Just make sure to add a gradual cardio cool down after each workout instead of going straight into a stretch routine and do good by your heart it's the only one nature is going to give you
Get the Insanity Deluxe package. It's going to come with two months worth of recovery formula. After these workouts your body is going to deplete it's supply of vitamins and minerals MUCH more quickly than you would other wise and that will just make you much more vulnerable to getting sick and having to post pone your workouts. Not good! Plus the deluxe package includes an extra workout for free.
