I have big thunder thighs and massive calves which i am fed up having, especially cause i cant get nice knee high boots to fit me :( but i was wondering does anyone know of any exercises to help me target these two areas?

i do walk everyday and i dance as well, i cant run cause it seems to enduce my astham, but any other form of exercise would be really appreicated.

has anyone had the problem of having big thighs and calves and overcame it by some sort of exercise cause i woluld like to hear any hints and tips, or difficulties that you have had, or are having....

thanks

  • Hey Trudy - I am in the SAME boat as you! I have found that the cardio is helping to burn fat, and contrary to what some people say, I am not going to work on building muscle in those areas, just tonning what I have (squats, lunges, etc - but without weights in hand).

Good luck, and as you lose, you will see lovely shapely legs emerging!

So I have been doing some videos that seem to really be toning my legs. The 30 day Shred, and also P90X's Lean+ video program. All the jumping and lunges and so on are doing wonders for my legs. My thighs no longer brush together!! And its only been a few weeks....

Ive totally got that problem too. If you go to OnDemand if you have it or to ExerciseTV and theres tons of leg toning workouts there
  • I could break a bear's neck with my thighs. So yea, ik what you mean. Lol, but srsly, what I've been doing is going to the gym twice a week and using an elliptical machine (works the whole body) for 30 mins and then the bicycle for 25 mins.

For at-home workout, I do leg lifts. Try doing various forms of leg lifts to target specific areas of your thighs. I started doing only 20 a day on each leg, doing 3 different kinds of lifts. Now I'm up to 50. I also do other basic calisthenics like sit ups, push ups, and crunches. Be in mind that leg lifts mostly target your thighs though, not your calves. For strengthening your calves, try doing lunges, wall sits, walking, and biking. Make sure to stretch really good before AND after you do any of these excersises, that way your muscles will not be as sore, and they will heal faster, building more muscle and burning more fat.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

  • I have the sme issue! I HATE boot shopping:grumble: I have read the jumping rope is the best exercize for those us us with more bottom that top. Seems to work, no bulk. Its also super cheap and is great for overall fitness anyways.

I did a one-off jump rope class last week and it was a killer!! My calves were sore for days afterwards. My Max HR got up to 99%!! I need to figure out how to jump rope slow so my heart doesn't explode :brokenheart: :explode:

Walking Lunges - You can do these during your walks. They work both the calfs and thighs.

My calves and thighs seem like they belong to two different people. I agree with what's been said, running (cardio) is very nice for the legs. I've been running for a little while, and my calves look great (I actually got a compliment from a stranger off the street on my calves. The thighs on the other hand are massive (in the not so good soft way). Lunges are good (they also help your bum). I've been doing abductor/adductor work on the machines (do people remember the thigh busters? but that only did the inside). I also believe that the abductor/adductor work helps with, ahem:embarassed: , sex (position) endurance.:blushing:
