Pre-workout snack??

I have seen a couple ppl talk about how you should have a high protein snack before a good workout. Is this true? If so, why? And what are some good things to eat?

Also, one other question while I'm here: does muscle really weigh more than fat?? I have been working out everyday, and eating MUCH healthier than I used to. I lost about 7lbs within the first month that I started exercising and eating healthier, going from 131lbs to 124lbs. But recently I've been fluctuating between 125-126lbs. I don't know if it's because I am gaining more muscle and it weighs more, or if it's something else. :ohwell:

Let me know what you think on both subjects! Thanks!

muscle is more dense than fat, so it takes up less room.

I was just 'talking' to someone about a preworkout food.

I always have a 1/2 a banana and peanut butter.

my trainer told me protien powder in milk is good too.

i always have some apples and peanut butter. the one day i decided to have cottage cheese instead of PB i nearly fainted.
  • I played softball for many years and we'd always do like a big spaghetti and bread lunch to load up on carbs before games or serious workouts. Granted, there's no way that me going to the gym for an hour will burn half the calories from a softball workout, so I don't go to town on the carbs, but I make sure to give myself some carbs to burn through so that I have the energy to get through the workout. If not a protein shake, I usually do peanut butter on toast or sometimes (at night) tortilla with beans (and salsa!).

I like to have a Kashi crunchy bar about an hour before I go work out. It's the only thing I've found that keeps me from raiding the fridge when I get home and they taste yummy!

I have a half of protein bar about 30-45 mins. before I work out, and eat the other half when I'm not working out... so far it's worked out well for me

Natural peanut butter on a whole wheat rice cake a 1/2 hour before working out...

I love peanut butter, so I might try a combination that includes it.

Lol, mainly why I'm qouting you is for your quote.

"The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect different results."

I love this quote, and I just thought it would be cool to let you know that while everyone thinks Benjamin Franklin said it first, it was actually coined by Albert Einstein. Which makes sense, seeing how his own brain and ideas must have drove him nuts sometimes lol.

This is very true. I like peanut butter and apple. Are you doing any protein or protein shakes after workout?

I don't have a shake (where do you buy the stuff required to make them? Or do they come in cans?), but I tend to eat dinner right after I get home. Dinner usually being some type of meat with rice or a salad. It all depends on what's available at home, and how much time I have to cook. (I like to not eat anything after 9, but sometimes it's impossible with my school schedule.)

I get a protein shake from my gym, but it is also sold at GNC. It's low in calories, fat, and sugar. Very tasty. I drink one after workout and one 45min-1hour before bed. I mix it with 2% milk.

Sweet, I will definitely try that! Thanks a ton! =]

I eat a protein bar...1/3 just before my workout and 2/3 immediately after. I use the EAS Myoplex Carb Advantage bars....love the cookies and cream ones!
