Eating Fast

What are the implications of eating quickly? I understand that you'll digest less efficiently because digestive fluids will be exposed to less surface area. What else?

Question came to me today because yet again I didn't get lunch until 4pm, and even then I only had about 2 minutes to eat.

You do not digest the food properly and therefore do not get all of the nutrients from it.

If you ever watch the show "You Are What You Eat", she examines people's BMs and shows them the undigested food in them. She says this is caused by not chewing your food properly.

To get graphic, she also send people for a colonic and they show the output tube. You can see chunks of food in it. Pretty nasty...but it is an effective show to watch

I believe it takes some time for your body to trigger the "I'm full" signal to your brain. By eating fast, you usually have a tendency to eat more because of this. As long as you control your portions, I guess this wouldn't be a big deal.

the biggest problem, IMHO, with eating too fast mainly, is that it takes your brain about 10 to 15 minutes to recognize the fact that you are full, if you eat fast, you can very easily over eat before you realize it.

That is my problem. I eat retardedly fast. I actually started eating all my food with chopsticks, just so I would force myself to slow down. Then I got so good with those, I kinda gave up.

Sounds like you have a crazy busy schedule. While it may be true that you won't digest it as well, and you might eat a little more because your brain won't realize you're full... eating fast is better than not eating at all.
