If you believe in REAL "Smart Choices" this petition needs your signature. If you don't agree, don't sign it. This post is not meant to start an arguement on HFCS and other food topics.

The following link will take you to change.org and you will be able to sign a petition to stop the marketing claims that are being used to push off sugar-filled foods as "Smart Choices".

signed it!!! I can't stand feeding my kids those sugary cereals and they want to claim it's healthy.. i rather give them a piece of real Fruit and a scrambled egg then a bowl of sugar cause it's easier...
  • I was disgusted to find out that TOTAL cereal has HFCS in it too!! I have signed and I stand by it...

As of my signature, there are 2545 signatures and they say they want 5000!! So tell your friends and family and lets sock it to 'em.

While your at it, when you get the the second screen there is another letter that can be sent protesting the distortions of health care reform by "The Lewis Group" which despite claims is NOT a non -partisan group, but one created for and funded by United Health Care, an insurance company.:explode:

If you care about your health and the health of others, let them know you can't be conned by industry shills trying to palm themselves off as disseminating "non-partisan" "factual" information!!!

"F*** Smart Choices. More like Stupid Choices."

Glad to see it's spreading around.

    2885 signitures.

I like the part were the doctor says compared to a donut, fruit loops are healthy. I want to know when a donut became the nutritional standard for breakfast...

Unfortunately, though, the anti-movement also tends to diss other real food like whole/raw milk, meat, eggs, etc. as "bad, dirty, fatty" breakfast foods...which, I'm sure some strongly agree with, but others like myself want to cry every time we see...
  • it doesn't even have to be a donut look at poptarts! those things are horrible!

  • Great NEWS!!!!! Just got this email!

    Hey Changemakers,

This week thousands of Change.org members took on the food industry's new marketing scheme to persuade customers to buy more highly processed foods - and won a major victory.

The new marketing program, called "Smart Choices," is a front-of-the-package nutrition-labeling program designed in theory to help shoppers make smarter food choices.

But as the New York Times exposed last week, the selections are anything but healthy. One of the selections is Froot Loops, which was chosen, according to one board member, because "it's better for you than donuts." (No, we're not kidding. We couldn't make this up.)

Despite the program's dubious standards, it maintained the appearance of legitimacy because researchers associated with three reputable organizations - American Diabetes Association, American Dietetic Association, and Tufts University - were on its board.

In response, thousands of Change.org members sent letters to the presidents of these three major research institutions urging them to remove their name from the program.

The result? All three organizations responded to the pressure this week by publicly distancing themselves from the food labeling scheme and officially asking Smart Choices to remove their name from its website and marketing materials - thereby publicly embarrassing and discrediting the program.

Mark this as a victory for consumer advocacy on the web. If anyone still questioned whether the Smart Choices program had any legitimacy, they now have their answer. And if food companies had any question about whether they'd be able to introduce a new marketing program to sell more unhealthy foods without repercussion, they now know there are thousands of consumers who will be watching.
  • Aw come on. They put 3 grams of fiber in Fruit Loops now. It HAS to be healthy.
