12-21-2012 Armageddon-fit just in case.

Ok so maybe getting fit just in case is not going to guarantee survival if a big rock hits but surely it would'nt hurt to prepare just in case right?. Just wondered what everyones views are on the whole end of the word thing on here as there is a very good mix of people on here. Ancient Mayan calendars tell us that something bad will happen on the 21rst Dec 2012 but now we are told that infact its heralding a new beginning. Well thats if they even have the date right! So which one is it. The last couple of years this planet has endured some of the worst natural disasters and weather patterns ever recorded. Is this a pre cursor of things to come? Is it something to do with the approach of Nibiru, a rogue planet that that orbits every 100000 years or so getting so close to the Earth that it will cause earhquakes, Volcano's to erupt and huge tsunamis wiping out huge parts of civilization? UFO sightings have rocketed in the last few years. Are they extraterrestrials studying us, readying for something to happen? Will they step in and help? Or is it just an increase in military activity preparing for something that they know is going to happen but are keeping secret and why have so many fema camps been set up?

A bit depressing i know but am very interested in this subject matter and would like to get your opinions.

Please don't use it as an excuse to run to cupboard and stuff your faces with cream cakes just in case "the world might end" so the calories mean nothing anymore. You will only regret it in the morning.

In a way, I've always kind of like the idea? I think I'm messed up. Obviously *really* I wouldn't want any of this to happen, but in a way I kind of would for curiosity sake? Only because, I feel as a human race we've become completely lazy. Have you ever seen the movie Wall-E? Probably the best depiction of humans in the future. That movie really wakes me up. But I think as a human race, we need a worldwide 'challenge'. Something that takes us back to our human instincts, the fight to survive. I know that sounds all a bit odd, and like I say I wouldn't really want it to happen, it's just the curiosity is there - I do wonder now that we have become so reliant on technology and things, how we would cope when it came to surviving. Sometimes, and I've discussed this with my partner many times, I wish I was put into a situation in the middle of no where, no technology, and see how I would cope - to see how smart I can be, and if I can survive without modern day essentials.

I don't know about the world ending according to the Mayan calender. I do believe we will wipe out eventually, but I won't be listening to any dates because it could be any time. And I do love the idea of there being life out there, and really, honest opinion I think we're a bit naive to think that there isn't. It can't just be us, what makes us so special. The universe is such a large place, and compared to that, there aren't many of us. So definitely there are more life forms out there, but they are probably just as clueless as us :)

    There's my two cents. lol.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_natural_disasters_by_death_toll

Only the Indian Ocean tsunami (2004) makes it into the top 10 deadliest natural disasters of all time.

2 from the top 10 deadliest disasters since 1900 are after 2004. None of them are in this decade (granted we're not far into it).

I'm totally going to be here after 21st Dec, I want my Christmas presents!

If a massive rock is headed this way, it will hit me. I have that sort of luck. Therefore no preparation is worth it ;o)

As for whether it is likely to be the end of the world, well I don't give it much thought, but I might go out and fit in as many crazy things in throughout the next 5 months, just in case!

It appears that you and i are on the same page. I often wonder if maybe we need something bad to happen in order to give the human race the kick up the *kitten* that it so desperately needs.

Yes! hundrend and TEN percent agree. I know it would be devastating but that's really how I feel too.
  • I believe the context of such a calendar is that time is cyclical, not linear... So the mayan cycles will just start again...

I'm not sure the mayans actually believed the world would end in 2012. All 2012 represents is the end of an era and a beginning of a new one and i quite like the idea of maybe a new spiritual age maybe where we start appreciating the earth and each other more ..bring on utopia lol !!

It's all about astrology really... The whole 2012 thing is just cosmic astrology on a much, much larger scale than what most are used to dealing with in our daily horoscopes!

If you don't believe in astrology then 2012 is a year like any other. If you do, than 2012 is a year to watch...maybe! Whether any of all this stuff is true or not, it's healthier to focus on making our lives better than to constantly expect some form of large scale disaster. That's not to say one can't be prepared for unexpected events...i am preparing for the old zombie apocolypse ..we all know thats just a matter of time lol !!

While I don't believe or disbelieve in astrology, I consider myself very open-minded to it. So I have interest in the 2012 thing and you tube have some good docs on it !

As for aliens of course they are out there .. we are not alone !!

The Mayans were not smart enough to survive, I'm not sure if I trust their ability to make a doomsday calender.

When I see another flood of 40 days and 40 nights I'll believe weather patterns are getting worse.

Reported UFO sighting may be up, but that doesn't mean the occurrence rate is any higher. Just that more people are saying they've seen them.

If its true about FEMA camps its either because the current and future administrations don't want to be caught with their shorts down like the previous administrations. Plus, government is designed to constantly use more money, even if it isn't needed or if it does not make sense. As a department head you are given say $100k to spend this year. If you don't spend it all they won't give you enough next year. So every year so make sure you spend all of it and ask for more.

Can you tell I'm a skeptic and a cynic?

Now, I can't say for sure when the world will end, but I can almost guarantee the Mayans were not saying the world would end in 2012.
FACT being Julius Caesar initiated leap years during his reign. If you account for these days, the world would have ended 7 years ago... just saying. The Mayan calendar is not the calendar we use today.
FACT... well I think its fact - Did anyone ever think that the guys making the calendar either died, or was like, "F this man. I'm done, someone can pick it up where it left off!"

    Just saying :)
Hope we all see 2013 and some more so we can continue reaching our goals and being freakin AWESOME!

I have been thinking about this and I have decided that when the world ends it ends, nothing I can do to stop it but maybe I can help myself survive! My husband and I have become workout maniacs and want to prepare for anything that's possible, not just preparing for 12-12 but for anything! I did some research on the Mayain calender and it's not supposed to be the end of the world it the end of a cycle, which in the Mayain traditon is supposed to be celebrated not feared. Anyways, who knows what's right when it comes to the calender but I'd still like to be prepared!

ancient Mayan calenders do not tell something bad will happen, they tell that their calender ends. something bad doesn't happen dec. 31 every year, their calender is the same. just an end, a new one starts. c'mon ppl stop being so damn dramatic.

The Bible says certain things are to pass before the end comes. One of them being King Soloman's temple being rebuilt in the same place it once stood. That has yet to happen, and it's gonna take more than 5 months. Just sayin.

Noone knows when the end will come, not even the mayans. If you are a believer of Christ, take peace with that.

From what I understand about the Mayan calendar that was found, is that the stone tablet had dates up to Dec. 21, 2012. Because it was broken off, not because the world is likely to end in December. What I'm preparing for is the imminent zombie apocalypse...that one kinda worries me, since its already starting to happen....

Since we have already put the Mayan calander myth to bed and the whole "worst natural disasters thing" I will take a shot a Nibiru. It is also fantasy. The concept was originated by a woman who claims to have been visited by aliens as a child and told it was coming. Astronomers have regularly debunked this. There is no such planet. First, because planets orbit stars. There is not a huge star in the center of the universe that Nibiru orbits allowing it to pass by the Earth every 100,000 years. Science is our friend.

I love how random the OP is. It made me chuckle definitely. What I see it as is an interpretation. We don't know what the mayans were thinking when they stopped it really, all we humans have done is interpreted it into what we think it is. I personally think it's just the beginning of a new age of consciousness which, quite frankly, I think the world needs or we actually are going to implode. That's it really. As someone else said, the people and the world need a shake up! We've become arrogant that we can do whatever we want to this planet and treat each other however we want and there'll be no consequences because we're human so it's ok. Which, let's be honest, is bs. We're the only species on this planet who kill each other for sport. We will eventually be wiped out, the question is whether we wait for the sun to implode on itself and kill us that way, or wipe each other out through stupidity? Who knows....

Considering all the weird disease stories lately (I mean heck there's still bubonic plague in the west) I'm more likely to believe a super virus/zombies than a giant rock hitting the Earth again.

Then again, I actually had a house that WAS hit by lightning...twice...in the same spot...5 years apart. Which they say "lightning doesn't strike twice", right?

The mayan calendar did not account for leap years, There have been about 514 leap years since Caesar created it in 45BC.......so technically the world should have ended 7 months ago.

Off-subject on my part..but.. It could be because your house has something that works as a lightning attractor. :)

2 people were killed in my city Sunday because they hid out under a tree during a soccer game that was delayed. Tree's are nature's lightning rods people! (My PSA of the day)

That's the funny part! It was in the open porch in the yard, which had zero trees. Little grassy area next to a sandy knoll type area. No antennas on the house, no electric box/cable box back there, cement was just there with a plastic set of lawn chairs. It was just...there...

Oh and the tree thing...Florida = lightning capital of the world, so you'd think people who golf with metal spikes would run indoors. You still have 'em, though.
