Has anyone ever used those alarm clocks that gradually lighten in the morning, it's supposed to simulate the sun rising so you can wake up more gradually.

Waking up is so traumatic for me, I am looking for something that won't jolt me out of sleep and make me cranky. Currently I have a clock radio that goes off around 6:15-6:30.....I am confused in the morning and cannot turn it off, I just hit snooze, so it goes off and scares me every 10 or 15 minutes. Then my cell phone alarms goes off at 6:30, 6:45 and 7:00, then I hopefully drag my butt out of bed at 7 or 7:10.

I do like waking up and going back to sleep for a bit, but this method isnt working. My boyfriend gets mad at the four alarms and they often scare me and make me mad, lol. I'm really not a morning person.....can anyone reccommend an alarm that is effective but yet not annoying?

I've heard of alarms that people who are hearing impaired use that will shake the bed. Maybe you need something like that instead of one that makes noise?

    Good luck!

I found a sunlight simulator clock on Amazon, but it is pretty expensive: http://www.amazon.com/BioBrite-Sunrise-Clock-Advanced-Model/dp/B00196LFGW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1254753694&sr=1-3 It's $124.90 plus shipping :ohwell:

Haha, I've actually tried that. You clip it to your pillow and it vibrates..it did wake me up, but unless I was using it wrong, it would only go off for like a minute and if you didn't hit snooze in time ( or just get up) then you fall back to sleep and don't wake back up. Didn't work so well for me, but thanks for the suggestion

I just found that too and it got really good reviews.....but man, that's so expensive. It may be worth it if I am less grumpy in the morning, but wow, coming up with that much money just for an alarm clock seems crazy. Thanks!

Well if the vibrating one sort of worked for you, you could use your cell in a belt clip. It'll keep going for a while and you can turn on your reminder then if you miss it the first time It tries again in 5 minutes; every five minutes until you wake up.

I put my clock radio on static so its not so jolting.

    I AM NOT ALONE! Woooohoooooooo!!!!
I have the clock radio AND the cell phone set for the exact same times you do, and I end up outta bed at the same time!!!

I have no good suggestions, by the way. :indifferent:

Accidentally did that once. Almost had a heart attack when it went off. With the radio alarm clock, the morning show topics get melded into my dreams, which makes them interesting.
  • i set my cell and regular alarm clock too! i accidentally forgot to turn on my alarm ONCE and overslept so now i set 2 just in case.

but my first alarm goes off at 4:05am and i'm out of bed by 4:35am. its even harder to wake up and get out of bed if the sun hasn't even thought about getting up

The best, and least jarring alarm I have ever used is a computer alarm that uses an MP3. It starts playing very softly, and then gradually raises the volume of your favorite song until you wake up. What could be better than waking up to your favorite song? That worked for me, of course, because I had a computer beside my bed at the time.

I don't think the gradual lighhtening would wake me up.

Oh, a tip. Keep your alarm clock far enough away from your bed that you have to get up to turn it off. Then you're up.

Wow, we're like the same person. The talk shows on the radio work themselves into my dreams too! Except then, instead of gradually waking up, I feel like I fall into a deeper sleep because I get confused of what is going on in my dream, and I think I don't have to wake up!
