Carb/Fat/Protein ratios

Hadn't really given it much thought, but decided to look at the last 3 days (which I did well- didn't go over, and all in all were 3 "typical" days for me as far as eating and exercising goes).

For the 3 days, the percentage of what I ate are in the following range:

Carbs: range from 62% to 70%
Fat: 8% to 9%
Protein: 21% to 27%

I just recently have started to try to eat a lower GI diet to accomodate some low blood sugar issues. I think the carbs are high, but I eat a lot of fruit (at least 2 pieces a day) and pair it with protein- I rarely eat fruit alone because of the blood sugar issues. I purposely eat a great deal of protein because it helps me feel full longer, and stabilized my blood sugar since it takes longer to digest. I run 3 days a week, and have just started incorporating some cross training into my routine- Spinning, yoga, aerobics, etc.

Just looking for some general feedback/opinions regarding my percentages. Thanks! :flowerforyou:

I think you should up your fat intake. Fat is not the enemy!! As for ratios, I hate to tell you what to do. I always pair my carbs w/ protein and get my fats from healthy sources (almonds, walnuts, and other nuts, natural PB, olive oil, etc). Those are the fats you want in your diet!

Thanks for the advice, Jess. Believe it or not, I'm not "avoiding" fats. I just don't tend to eat a lot of them. I will try to incorporate more into my diet though... any excuse to eat peanut butter, right?

I know there isn't a "right" or "wrong", just wanted some general feedback, and I appreciate you giving it to me. Thanks for your response!

I agree, your fats should be at least around 15%, and 70% carbs is a little high IMHO.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to really struggle to decrease my carbs, not because I'm in love with them, just because I don't feel like I eat a lot (other than the fruit, maybe) that are big in the way of carbs. Generally speaking, it seems like it's a lot of little or medium sized foods that all add up by the end of the day.

My new plan: I'm going to work on decreasing the carbs and increasing the fat. Always looking to make things healthier... thanks! :flowerforyou:

Good idea! Try upping the veggies instead of fruits and adding in some of those healthy fats! :drinker:

Will do... I'm such a fruit-a-holic :ohwell: There could be worse things to be in love with I suppose, but I love, love, love fresh fruit!
