    Hi everyone. Great news from my doctor , so I feel like I have a new lease on life. I’ve started working out again, and logging my food. I’m determined to be the healthiest I can. I feel like I can’t be stopped from achieving my goal. Now the scale is another thing. It sure is slow moving! You know what? I can deal with that, annoying as it is. I’m in this for the longggest haul. Ladies, we’ll beat that darn scale eventually.

    Happy Tuesday Everyone!
    I have finally made it to my pre-Covid weight again. I was off by about a month and a half but rather be late than never. It is getting cold here in Minnesota the wind today was up to 30 miles an hour and the temperature is in the low 20s. I am actually thinking of buying a treadmill just a cheap one maybe even a manual one just to get by for the winter. However, if I buy a cheap electric one Riley could use it too so then two people are using it well a person and a dog.

    @JNettie73 - Favorite Christmas movie… Well current modern movie I would say This Christmas with Chris Brown.. However, I do love the original Home Alone! I am a huge Hallmark Christmas movie watcher that is all I watch the month of December. Balsam Hill commercials really make me think I could get down with an artificial tree. However, my real tree doesn’t even come close to cost in what their artificial trees do.

    Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't posted recently. Looks like MFP has done an update and now I can't get to the community threads from my phone. I tend to keep up with reading the thread from the app, and then I post from my laptop.

    @mnwalkingqueen -- That's a great plan to get a treadmill--especially if you think you can get Riley to use it. Gunner used to just bark and whine at my treadmill which made it miserable to use. I would have to shut the door and listen to him whine and cry throughout my workout. LOL! I also have found that I tend to work out harder at the gym. Maybe it's the fact that others are around, but I just find I run faster/longer at the gym than at home. I also do enjoy switching up my cardio and using the bike, rowing machine, and elliptical as well. I just saw an ad that Planet Fitness is waiving the signing fee through November 16th, so I'm definitely going to join again. I may actually go tomorrow after work.

    @JNettie73 & @mnwalkingqueen -- I like Christmas, but I'm not a super fan. I do enjoy decorating, especially now that we have room to host the holidays. Last year was the first time I decorated in years. At the old house there just wasn't much room for a tree, and adding decorations just made it feel more cluttered. We also always have a fake tree, so I will probably put it up after Thanksgiving. My favorite holiday movie is It's A Wonderful Life. My dad and I used to watch it together and quote lines--drove my mom and sisters crazy. Now, we still text each other favorite lines when either of us happens to be watching. LOL

    @Melwillbehealthy --glad to hear you got good news from the doctor! You are so motivated--I hope it's catching because I seem to have lost my mojo over the past couple of weeks.

    @MrsHermit --looks like you have some great goals! Is your scale electronic? I've found that mine will start giving me a really broad range of numbers when it needs new batteries.

    AFM--As I mentioned above, I haven't been great about exercise or nutrition lately. Lots of little reasons: bad weather, lots of holiday socializing, busy with meetings and appointments. It's like the trifecta of excuses for just giving up, but I won't. Last week, my weight was back down in the 191 range, but this week it hasn't been below 193, so I think the sporadic logging and lack of exercise is catching up with me. As Holly likes to say, tomorrow is a new day. I will start tracking regularly and join the gym, so I can get right back on track before this spirals into a holiday eating disaster.

    @skinnyjeanzbound I've been having trouble with calorie goals and exercise too, several excuses and routine changes. Today is another day - try again! Yes my scale is electronic. I think I remember portable scales that weren't, but have no idea how to find them nor any idea if they're any more reliable. I do like tracking to partial lbs (tenths).
    @mnwalkingqueen I hope you find a nice treadmill! If we had a house I'd like one for the winter, but since we're in timber-framed apartments it's not an option. (bummer)

    I've been getting my strength training done every day after cardio. It is a good feeling. I saw a larger loss earlier in the week which wasn't there when I weighed in this morning. It's still a loss and I know I am headed in the right direction. I am going to keep doing what I am doing. What happens will happen over time.

    @mnwalkingqueen
    Congrats on getting to your precovid weight!
    It just started to get cold here but we are no where near where you are temperature wise. I have to say being close to 60 lbs down I am having a hard time with the cold. I am always putting on layers in the house.
    I don't think I've seen This Christmas. I am going to have to put that on my watch list.

    @skinnyjeanzbound
    Sorry to hear you have had a super busy time lately.
    I hear you about the holiday diaster eating. I have concerns myself about it. I hope I am able to keep myself in check and not over indulge.

    @Melwillbehealthy
    Congratulations on the good news from your doctor.

    @MrsHermit
    I do the same of focusing on how my body is changing. It's extremely motivating when I reflect on where I was when I first started my journey to where I am now.

    I don't know if I will get back on before Thursday. I have a busy week ahead between work, parent teacher conferences, cleaning and prepping for Thanksgiving. I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!

    @JNettie73 Yeah I think the Non Scale Victories are important things to note along one's journey. I need to take the time to notice how I'm changing and remind myself of the new muscle and toning I'm achieving.

    This week I'm cooking for others but am only dropping off the food. I think my challenge will be that I'm going to be worn out, so have sensible meals prepped for myself.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Make good choices and good memories!

    @MrsHermit --I just meant you might try changing the batteries to see if that helps. :)

    AFM- I had a little tick back up on the scale which was expected given the overindulging the past couple of weeks. This coming Wednesday, I have my very first colonoscopy (yuck), so I haven't been eating much and have been sticking to soft foods like soup this weekend in anticipation of the "prep" on Tuesday. As a result I've been under my calorie goal both days. Tomorrow my friend's son, who is like a nephew to me, and his wife, who is a former student of mine, will be coming to dinner. They are visiting from Denver where they now live. They've requested deep dish pizza, so I will probably have a little bit of that; otherwise, I'm sticking with soup again for lunch along with some yogurt.

    I didn't yet join the gym, but I checked and the sign up special waiving the joining fee is good until November 24th, and I can sign up online, so I will probably do that tomorrow or Tuesday.

    I doubt I will get back on to post until late in the week. I hope all of those in the US have a wonderful Thanksgiving. :)

    hey just checking in everyone. I and Riley in our dog walking friends did 6.8 miles today. I was supposed to do a 10K so it was a little bit over. It was cold as F outside it was 30° with 27 mile an hour winds. But I needed to get it done before the cold really sets in. I added the map of our route.
    I think if I had an artificial tree I will put it up already the problem is I’ve tried them before and they never look as nice the second year as I did the first. I think that’s why I continue to buy a real tree for now. Plus if I bought artificial trees I’d have one in every room of my house hence I do have enough decorations to do that. I tend to buy a lot of crap after Christmas clearance so I have like bins upon bins that I only paid like lesson $50 for.
    Karen you wonder if Riley will use a treadmill. Here is a picture of him actually walking on one he is wearing what is called a calming Because anytime I’m out of his eyesight he tends to cry that way he hast to use his other senses versus his eyes.
    In case I don’t check in again before the holiday I hope everybody has a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving.qr4rl42f11dk.jpeg

    @mnwalkingqueen -- Holly, congrats on doing your walk! This is the first time in many years that I didn't do at last a 5k on Thanksgiving morning. Even last year when the turkey trots were all canceled, I still went out on my own. This year, I just didn't have time since I was laid up most of the day on Wednesday. Riley looks so cute on the treadmill!!

    AFM- So my colonoscopy went well. The prep wasn't great, but I was prepared for it to be much worse. The actual procedure was a piece of cake since I was asleep. LOL! No issues or problems, and I'm now good for 10 more years. Yay!

    I actually hit my lowest weight on monday of last week before I did the prep, but my weight was back up a pound or so later in the week due to Thanksgiving dinner plus all of the leftovers. The good news is that the goodies are now all gone, so I can get back on track with my eating.

    Another plus is that I also finally rejoined the gym, We spent the weekend raking leaves, and then I had meetings, so tomorrow will be my first chance to go check out the new location. We live in a more congested area now, so I hope it's not too crowded. One nice thing is that the app has a "crowd meter," so you can check to see if it's really busy before you go.

    Our Thanksgiving was really nice. My whole family was here for dinner, and a couple of friends stopped over to join us for dessert. I had a couple of really good nights of sleep over the weekend, so that was nice as well.

    Hope everyone also had a good week!

    Happy Hump Day!
    I know I’m going to be a Debbie downer at this point but if we never get the white stuff this year I will be happy. I have really enjoyed being able to walk outside all of November and mostly December according to the weather for the next week. I mean it was over 50° here today yes I still wear my winter jacket because I like to keep my body temperature is close to the same all the time. Well I was going to buy a treadmill on Black Friday the one I want is only sold online at Sam’s Club and it has been sold out now for several days there wasn’t even a deal on it. I may end up joining the gym I just don’t like driving in the winter time especially around my neighborhood because they rarely plowed decent I’ve gotten stuck so many times because I own a car and not an SUV an SUV comes in handy when plowing is crappy.
    @ Karen- i’m glad that you had a good Thanksgiving and that your doctors appointment went well. Is it normal to be put to sleep for the procedure or were you actually just so tired you fell asleep? I am so nervous to get that procedure done. I hope that your new gym works out for you it’s really cool that they have a meter on the app to let you know when they’re too busy.

    @mnwalkingqueen I understand about wanting to walk outside. It gets cold and icy here too. I just workout at home now. Even in the better weather, I don't want to risk the crime. So I follow some exercise videos on youtube which seem to help. I can't get a treadmill because we're in a stick-frame apartment. Maybe you'll find on locally like on craigslist (be safe!).
    There's a walking club at the mall but I only went once. Maybe if you have a large indoor mall they have a walking club too (done before the official mall opening hours).

    Hey Everyone,
    Well the weather is insane here in MN. The white crap is here now. It has been a feels like temperature of below zero for the last two days so not much working out going on. Haven’t found any exercise videos online that I like yet.
    after 30 years I have figured out why I hate winter so much. Me and a coworker were chatting today about car accidents and both of us happen in horrific accidents in the winter time. We realize that we might have some sort trama from our situations that caused us to not want to drive in the winter or be outside at all in the winter. I know for myself I really don’t like driving in the winter and I definitely don’t like driving when it’s icy out. That is when my accident happened and I can now see after all this time how it affects how I deal with the winter.

    @MrsHermit- I know the malls in my area open early for more walking. The downside is I hate driving in winter weather. I pretty much become a homebody in the winter time.

    @mnwalkingqueen -- Holly, I was put under general anesthesia, and my understanding is that is normal for the procedure. Don't be nervous--the procedure itself was nothing. Prep was a little bit icky, but overall not horrendous. I tried to stick to a softer diet for a few days prior, and I think that helped. Sorry the treadmill you want is out of stock--that's a bummer. I hear you about not wanting to drive in the ice and snow, and I am 100% with you about being perfectly happy if we had zero snow. We had our coldest day since February today, and I am not a fan. Fortunately, our extended forecast says we will be back up in the 60s next week after a week of typical December weather. One of my friends said the almanac predicts we won't have any big storms until late winter. Fingers crossed that's accurate.

    @MrsHermit -- Are you also in the Midwest of the US? Mall walking is a great idea! Most clubs walk right before the mall opens at 9 or 10 am, but anyone could just go walk the mall any time when it's open too. Sometimes, if I'm feeling sluggish at work, I do a lap around our entire high school where I work. It's only about a quarter of a mile, but it really helps--especially if it's a day when I'm not moving much in the classroom.

    AFM--I've been to the gym twice in the past week, last Wednesday and again on Sunday, and it wasn't crowded either day. I would have gone again today, but I started putting up my Christmas decorations while listening to a Zoom meeting after work, and time got away from me. Also, my lower back has been tight the past few days. I think I just slept wrong on Saturday night because it felt this way when I woke up Sunday morning. I still went to the gym on Sunday as planned because I thought the exercise might help loosen it up. It may have helped a bit, but as of Tuesday it still feels really stiff after sitting for more than 10 or 15 minutes. It's fine when standing or moving, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. I've been doing some extra stretches, so hopefully it will continue to get better over the next few days. Gunner has laser therapy tomorrow after work, so I will try to hit the gym again Thursday. My goal is 3 days a week, but I'll be happy with 2 days considering all of the meetings and holiday parties I have coming up over the next couple of weeks.

    My weight went up a little last week, but it's already back down to 190.4 this week. I would LOVE to ring in the New Year in the 180s, so that's motivating me a bit. :)

    well Minnesota friends we got the nasty stuff all in one day. I live in the north metro so I didn’t get as much as some people but I think I got 6 inches in one day. My friend lives in the south metro and she got 18 inches in one day. I heard it could’ve affected some of Wisconsin and Iowa also I’m not sure though. Anyway if you live in any of these cold climate states and you hate snow just as much as I do I feel you. Shoveling was my exercise for today because they never plow our streets fast enough so today I will be stuck in my house for sure. although my blood pressure medication is not working as well as it should for me I was on a very low dose 5 mg so the doctor update yesterday to 10 mg but she said she was impressed with all the walking I’ve been doing and that I’ve gotten back down to my pre-Covid weight. I personally wish that I would have better self control over not eating all the crappy food that I do.

    @ Karen- Thanks for the information on the procedure. I have heard from other people the prep is kind of annoying to say the least. I hope your back is feeling better. That is great motivation for the new year.

    @mnwalkingqueen I am a homebody too. I can't park a car anyways so I avoid driving trips (my husband is a great driver thankfully.) Also, the crime is just getting terrible here so we avoid going out. There's a car repair shop in every neighborhood here, it seems, because of winter! No problem being a homebody, just find something fun to move around to. Remember to enjoy any sunshine through the windows you can get! (it gets dark here for a few months; cloudy skies).

    @skinnyjeanzbound I'm currently in the Inland Northwest, but moving in a few months to high desert. (at least that's the plan and hope and prayer). Walking around as a break at work is a good idea. Although I'm working at home, I try to get up and move around.

    I've been trying to work on daily habit goals but things are changing so much here with the necessary move that it's been tough. I'll still insist on my daily morning prayer goal before I face the day. That's a start anyways.

    I did my December 10K today at the Mall of America for make a wish foundation
    because it was the feels like temperature 2° outside here in Minneapolis. I had a goal to do the 6.2 miles in two hours based on my minute per mile on other walks. I am so proud to say that when I’m walking indoors and without a dog I can do so much better. I complete it early and walked my mile the fastest I’ve walked all year. I will say walking inside with a sweatshirt on I was pretty hot by mile 3. Here are some pictures I found a cool display at one of the stores to go with my 10k walk and based off of one of my favorite watches (Swatch) as a kid. I wish the lady taking my picture would’ve told me I was holding the bib upside down LOL

    oh I also have a question for the group. Last week when I went to the doctor I was told not to eat anything before my appointment. I weighed myself at home before going to the doctor and when I was weighed at the doctor I weighed over a pound less than I did at home. Do you think that my scale is off or could it be that the doctors scale was off? There was an hour difference between weigh ins

    @mnwalkingqueen Congrats on your mall walk! That's pretty cool and it looks like you had fun!
    I'm not sure about the scale question, because I see fluctuations on my own scale even when I hadn't done or eaten anything only after a few hours. I've watched a few educational videos on how the body converts to and from fat, which is interesting (water and carbon dioxide plus sweating), but I think it's largely not really understood. I think since it was just a one pound difference I would just dismiss it. Maybe your body is trying to look its best self-consciously? :tongue:

    I haven't been exercising or cutting back on calories (though keeping it limited) as much this past week because of stress and just trying to prepare for something (move, nomadic, what?). Last two weeks have been date-shy as bad news/events tend to always happen in the past two weeks (or next week) and last year was hell during that time. Thankfully nothing serious has happened so far and I actually had a happy birthday. Not a single bad news that day. End of week, we finally found out we are in fact moving to a place, not going to be nomadic so that stress is relieved. We'll be pretty much broke when we get there, but we will have a place to camp on while we build shelter. Thank God.
