Recipe Help... Advice

Hey there

Question... I make dishes with chicken usually that I bake in a sauce, but do not necessarily "eat" the sauce... Example
4 chicken breasts
1 packet onion soup mix
1 can of cream of mushroom
container of fresh sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup chardonnay

Mix all but chicken and pour over the chicken cover and bake. How do I count that? I mean I look at adding it in recipes, but I am assuming that is if I am actually consuming all this. I do this alot too, like Monday, Chicken, half bottle of Catalina, can of cranberries, packet of onion soup mix... HOW DO I COUNT CALORIES!!!!! AAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!

I enter the recipe into the recipe calculator.. and then just assume I ate an entire serving. I'd rather over estimate than under estimate.

But if you want the most accurate measurement, I'd suggest you cook the chicken separate from the sauce, enter the recipe for just the sauce in the recipe calculator thing, and then figure out how much you'd actually consume with a measuring cup. count that as one serving for your recipe to get the exact number of cals.

I just count it like I did eat all the sauce.

Now, marinades really confuse me! :noway:

A serving for most sauces are about 1/4 cup, so my suggestion would be to find out how many calories are in 1/4 cup and then determine how much of that you actually eat. For marinades I would think that for prepackaged store bought marinades the serving size would be 1 tbsp. like steak sauce or ketchup is. Even though you use more than this to marinade I would think that this would be a good indication of the amount of calories that are added to the meat. Its just my opinion though.

Okay after typing the above I did some research and found this blog. Sounds like a good way to figure out calories for marinades and would probably work with a little modification with the sauce issue also.

I did this, since it makes the most sense. I would prefer to over estimate than under! Thanks!

I do it this way also, rather be to high than to low.
