Considering VGS...surgeon consultation next week

Hi. I am currently 5'6" and weigh approximately 335 pounds. I went to a WLS seminar last week in support of a loved one. I honestly went in thinking that there is no way I would do this. I had been mulling it over for years, thanks to the underhanded comments made by an Uncle...I felt, it's cheating...I can do this by myself. After the seminar, my whole point of view changed. I actually signed up right then and there. Two days later (last Friday), I'm being scheduled for the next phase with great news from the insurance company. I am nervous, but excited. I've been researching the procedure and I am kinda freaked out. I find some good and some bad. I would really really appreciate connecting with someone (or multiple someones) that could possibly be a buddy for positive influence and support through my up coming journey. I look forward to meeting and reading all of the support in this group!

Congrats for making the decision to change your life!!! It is not cheating at all. I hate all of the mis information out on WLS. There are so many more who could benefit from this surgery if there were not so much negativity out there on the surgery. It was the best decision I made in my life and I would do it again in a heart beat. Everyone knows the statics on losing and keeping weight off but refuse to get help.

As far as I am concerned it is like finding out there is cure or treatment for cancer that could save your life or help you get better and choosing to fight cancer on your own.

You are a good canidate because you know it will take effort to maintain weight loss and when the honeymoon period is over you will have already have developed the healthy habits to keep the weight off.

Good luck to you and keep us posted on your surgery date!!! :flowerforyou:
