I hope I get some encouragement in this group. Seems to be a bit harder to loose weight now
then when I was younger. And of course I been a yo yo dieter all my live and think this should be the last time.
Need to be fit to play with grandchildren.:wink:

Welcome to the group. It is harder to lose the weight now. I find I have to eat around 1200 calories (that is around the amt MFP set for me-more or less) and not eat my exercise calories back and watch my sodium intake. That and I try to walk around 20-30 minutes a day.

Welcome from another new board member. If you've lost 14 pounds since February, you're doing GREAT!

I've only lost 13 pounds since Jan 2nd... although I cannot exercise right now due to recent injury. I am also eating at or under 1200 calories/day, and try to keep my carbohydrates lower than 50% of my daily intake. If I lose 1 pound a week, I consider it winning the war!

I second what has already been said - I too try to keep at or under 1200 calories and I don't add back my exercise calories. That is the only way I can lose! I maintain on 1500 - and gain at 1501!! I could lose so much easier when I was younger - but I seem to have an easier time of staying on my new regime than any other I have tried in the past 75 years!!!! Let's all support one another and WE CAN DO IT!

Hi Hellie63 and welcome. This is a wonderful place to be to get lots of encouragement and help.I've been on here for almost a year and I've lost 13 lbs of the 30 or so that I need to lose. I'm also dealing with the food allergies. My goal is to lead a healthier lifestyle overall and not just to lose weight. There is longevity on both sides of my family and I want to be and able to enjoy life, hubby, children and grandchildren.

    Welcome and good luck!

Hi! I am sending you good wishes in your journey. I too am in my 60s and believe me, it's a LOT harder to lose weight and more than that to keep one's belly and butt from expanding a lot. I'm working on it and MFP has been a big help in the past year. If only because the Diary feature gives me a reality check in terms of the calories I'm consuming. I continue to be educated.

    Good luck.

Welcome to the group. It is very encouraging and supportive. Yes, it is harder to lose when the older we get but to play with those grandkids is a great incentive. You look like you're already well on your way to a good loss!

Hi and welcome to our wonderful group. Yes, it is harder to lose, but not impossible as we all know. Some of us it takes longer, some seem fast to drop the weight, but what is important here is that we do drop it. It has taken me 2 years to lose 40 pounds total. I started out just on my own, did not know there was this wonderful site for free. Last year in Feb I found out about MFP and have been here since. I might be slow, but I figure any loss is better than a gain, even it that means I am just maintaining for the moment.

Good luck to you on your journey, you will find you receive so much more than just support here, you will find true pals that encourage you and understand fully what you are going through.

Make sure to check out our weekly challenge post I should be putting up soon.

Hello from another newbie........ I echo what the others have said....... if I didn't walk every day I would pile weight on........ but it can be lost and then kept under control....... and as we get older the incentives are huge.......... have to stay as healthy as we can

....and it is harder to just know what to do as we get older...... people say if you don't eat the exercise calories you are not eating enough and could slow down the weight loss ...... but as we seem to have found, this is not true as we get older........ I keep seeing messages saying - you are not eating enough......... getting the balance right can be tough

Howdy - What a wonderful goal to play with Grandchildren. And if you play with them it will help you increase your activity, which will help with the lb.
This is a good group, especially if what your looking for is to make changes in your health and activity.
You and I and the others can do it together.
    !persistence!

I so agree, I am another one in same boat, I just ignore the "you are under your net cals" or such like, I know they mean well but I think at my age does it really matter as long as the weight is going down?

i am 70 in a few weeks and have got this far and hope with a few less pounds I will go on a lot longer before I turn my toes up

Eating back the exercise calories never made any sense to me. It has taken me almost a year to decide that I will eat somewhere between 1100 and 1300 calories a day, whether I exercise or not. My weight comes off very slowly as I change my eating habits whether I exercise or not. I have found that I feel much better when I do walk or stretch and that I'm a little stronger since I started working with with my 1.5 or 3.5 weights.

We can all achieve our goals, no matter what our age.
