I think it sucks all around. The author said she wrote it on her Blackberry on her way to work. It also started out as Twilight fanfiction..

Anyways, it's written poorly, the plot is very dumb, and Christian Grey is technically "flawless" in this book, which is very impossible. Older women like the book though, so I guess I'm not one to judge being my age. I just think it' very stupid and I roll my eyes every time I see any of the authors books while out shopping.

I endured the first book of Twilight because of all the hype. Then I endured the first book of Dragon Tattoo because of all the hype. I learned my lesson, and did not succumb to this book. After reading this review, THANK YOU JESUS I didn't. This sounds horrible!

It is an erotica... it's basically book porn... so yeah plot? sucks... but really when watching actual porn do you expect amazing acting and a super intense plot? no, well it's the same with Erotica books... Either way I'm an avid reader of Erotica and many other types of books from very well known writers and I really liked the series. Compare it to many other erotica's... it was great! Compare it to some Danielle Steel, Jackie Collins, Stephen King etc... sucks!! People need to compare it to other books from the same genre...

I would guess that most people who dislike this book and say bad things about it, don't read Erotica books, ever. Then they go and compare them to the books you mentioned. I think in reality most people are ignorant and get the idea that it's a forbidden subject somewhere along the lines or something to read those books, just like a lot of girls are against porn. IMO. I try to keep an open mind. When I first heard it i didn't know what it was. WHen I learned that it was an Erotica book, I knew it wasn't going to be a great plot, but even then I still find it highly intriguing. Maybe it helps that I have an open mind when it comes to sexual stuff, when most people don't tend to. :\

You shouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions about why people dislike this series. I've read a lot of erotica and romance novels, so I have no problem with any sort of sexual stuff. I've read my fair share of BDSM stuff as well. So, I have a lot of stuff to compare this book to and it falls short compared to any erotic and/or romance novel I have ever read in terms of the plot, writing and the sexual stuff.

Literotica.com has better erotic fiction and it's free.

Also, just because it's erotica doesn't excuse it from not having some sort of plot that doesn't revolve around sex. At least that's what I think.

    THIS!

I recently read Voice of the Crow, because it sounded like (and was) an awesome series. While the sex scenes surprised me, because at first I thought it was a young adult novel, I welcomed them, one, because they were HAWT, but also it adds more reality to it. People have sex, why not have it included in stories? It's like characters in movies/books never having to pee, or eat. We're human people, we all have human needs. Sex has its place it writing.

I think I made my point, but I'm not sure anymore after talking about people pooping.

Read this review a while back. I haven't read the books because I was just hesitant, but now I'm certain I will never read them. No mommy porn for me!

Yeah, why do you need mommy porn when you have real porn?

You also have to know that she wasn't intending for it to get published and it's written good enough to make tons of money!

I managed a total of five pages of the book before the appalling writing got to me.

    This was far better written.

I was looking at it at the bookstore a few weeks ago...I couldn't even get through 5 paragraphs. Felt like it was written for 12 year olds or something. I don't get all the fuss, there are so many better things out there to read!

If you like erotica, you're better off reading Anne Rice's Sleeping Beauty trilogy. She wrote it under the pen name A. N. Roquelaure. I read it about 20 years ago in college...

Just because books are published does not mean they're well written. Look at Twilight.

I'm interested to know what kind of books everyone else is reading. Mostly the ppl who are so opinionated about hating 50 shades.

    Laters, baby

Halfway through George R.R. Martin's "A Storm of Swords" (Game of Thrones series). Just started Robert Jordan's "The Gathering Storm" (Book 12 in the Wheel of Time fantasy series), just finishing "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"--second attempt at it, didn't get into it the first time and took it back to the library after the first chapter...I usually try to give books a second chance if possible...that one was worth another try...Also just started "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" and "Chi Marathon." And I'm reading a Lisa Gardner novel "Catch Me" and "Death Walker by Aimee and David Thurlo (Native American policewoman series)...what can I say? I read a lot...I just don't get all the "50 Shades" hype. I don't hate it...I just think it's poorly written.

Sadly I agree...I started reading the Twilight series when the first movie was about to come out (again, didn't get the hype. My kinda vampires are like Louie and Lestat in "Interview With the Vampire. They DON'T sparkle LOL). Another poorly written series...the movies are a bit better...but I didn't even start the last book.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who couldn't get into "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". All that excitement and the book bored the daylights outta me.

Well I read all three of them and loved them if you're not into that sort of thing fine by me! I am also on a Lorelei James kick if you want to read some more books like E. L. James you should read those too! I will say this you should read the back to see if you are even remotely interested in it! It also says right on the back that it is Erotic Romance! but anyways happy reading to everyone that enjoys it!

P.S. My boyfriend loved the affects of the books!

    *kitten* 50 shades

You want hotness? Read JD Robb's "In Death" series.....good murder mysteries with just enough sex thrown in to make it steamy. And Roark puts Christian Gray to shame...............Irish dudes are way sexy.

I KNEW I was forgetting a good series...haven't read too many of the JD Robb books but the writing was good from what I remember....
