Is it best to be under or over?

I have had the app for a long time but this is the first time that I have managed a week of consistent input. I started last Sunday at 5'8" (Age 49) and 209lb. FP has given me a calorie goal of 1530 per day. I have to admit I do not calorie count every cup of tea but I usually count a couple a day (I probably have about 4 cups and sometimes finish the day with a milky coffee (skimmed) which I don't always count, a cup of tea for me is 7 calories.

Over the course of the week these have been my end of day totals, Sunday +407, Monday -153, Tuesday +139, Wednesday -21, Thursday +187, Friday +326, Saturday +59. Each day I have consistently lost weight until Friday when I gained .2 of a lb and then a further .7 of a lb.

My question is, is it better to be slightly in deficit so that you are eating enough to stop the slow down of the metabolism. I know you are probably going to tell me off and say I should not be weighing every day but it is a habit I picked up when on Dukan. If I had not weighed myself everyday and had just weighed in today then I would have been more than happy with a 3.5lb loss.

Just wondering why I have gained over the last couple of day, periods can now fluctuate between 33 and 60 days and according to my app am not due for another 16 days or 11 if on a 33 day cycle.

Help don't want to get de-motivated.

Thanks

There are lots of reasons that your body fluctuates slightly in weight. Water retention 9which itself has to do with more than just the amount of liquid you drank) is a big one. I'm not saying you shouldn't weigh daily, because I think you should do whatever works for you, but one of the things people have against daily weighing is that you just can't attribute those tiny, brief fluctuations to anything specific that you've done, and it can lead you to make inaccurate connections.
