I honestly don't see what people like about them. James is the worst author since Meyer. Can't even invent her own characters ffs. Christian is an abusive ****head with his head stuck up his own *kitten* and Ana is... Well she's an empty character. No personality to speak of and not even remotely believable. The sex scenes are dull as ****, I can only feel sorry for people who consider them otherwise because they obviously have never had a decent **** in their lives.

Can you tell I'm not a fan? Lol

I love books. I love naughty books. However, I have no desire to read 50 Shades because of the poor writing. Plus, seeming since 50 Shades started out as Twilight Fan-fiction, I just can't get over it. That being said, I enjoyed Bared to You, but it isn't even close to being one of my favorite naughty books. It can be a great, fun genre if you're up to exploring (take pun if you wish!). There are much better writers in the genre: Kitty Thomas, Annabel Joseph, Olivia Cunning, and Juniper Bell just to name a few.

^ and this...I prefer a naturally dominant man, not a messed up dude who needs counseling instead of a whip. One does not need to be messed up in the head to enjoy BDSM. One does not need to be a clueless pushover to be a submissive.

What other books would you recommend??? I loved 50 Shades, and would like to read more types of books like these! I'd be interested to hear what else is out there!!!

I recommended them to my therapist. He asked why he should be reading porn and I replied that they are books about relationships and that is a part of his business.

Basically anything from the authors I mentioned. Kitty Thomas's Comfort Food was amazing, but it is a psychological mind trip that some aren't comfortable with. Olivia Cunning's Sinners (a fictional rock band) series is good, naughty fun. Juniper Bell's Training the Receptionist and sequels if you like a hot man (or two) in a business suit. Anything by Annabel Joseph. Those are good starting points. Pick your poison.

Some of the worst writing I've ever experienced as a reader. Couldn't make it past the halfway point, it was pathetic.

Read the first and a little into the second.

    They're not really gripping me.

Irritates me that people are so obsessed with the sexual content too. Completely missed the story of it - A guy who has issues with intimacy (due to his past) and is learning to trust with the help of a girl. And on the other end, a naive girl who is learning to push her boundaries in the name of love.

I mean, have people only just found out sex exists?

Thanks Tikafly! I will try those authors / books out!

As far as 50 Shades goes.......

I LOVED the books. But, if you are looking to read them because of the good writing, you are going to be disappointed. The writing is not prize winning material (although she never claimed it to be). I love the story behind it all. The relationship between the main characters is what really intregued me. The sex scenes were ok. It depends on how knowledgable you are in SMBD. If you know a lot about it, you will not be shocked. But if you are new to that world it may shock you...also if you are kinda prudish it may shock you!

I tell everyone to give it a try. If you don't like it....stop reading it! It's that simple. And if you like it (as I did)....read it over and over and over again! Hehe

The 1st one was OK. Loved the 2nd one bc there was an actual story behind it. Im suffering through the last 1. Im just not into it anymore. She is a broken record! However I do LOVE Christian!!!

I agree 100%. I actually stopped half way through the 3rd because it was so painful to read.

I enjoyed it. You'll find a lot of people who complain about the writing, but E L James doesn't claim to be a writer. I liked the story and it opened my eyes to a lot of stuff. My husband is VERY happy....hahaha!

If you want a good follow-up, read Bared to You by Sylvia James. I honestly can't decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross. YUM!

Oh yes!!!! Bared to you is an awesome read!! Trying to decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross is hard though! Although I am leaning more towards Gideon!!!

I have no idea why women are lusting over an abusive man.

There are a lot of "50 Shades" Haters, I am NOT one. LOVED THEM. All 3 books in 4 days and I told everybody it was the best diet because I didn't even want to stop reading to eat.

Never know if its for you until you try.....

Excuse me....gotta go braid my hair now.

I read the first and second ones quickly but I am burning out so badly on the 3rd one. Ana is just so obnoxious in it. Who do you think should play them in the movies?

    my picks are
    christian: ian somerhalder
    ana: alexis bledel
    kate: emily vancamp
    elliot: alexander skarsgard
