I read the whole set to see what all the hype was about, I kept reading hoping it would get better - but it didn't  (good thing I got the set on a deal:grumble: ) . As others have mentioned, it lacks character development and feels like it was written by a 15 year old :S.
Also the fact 'he's an abusive psychopath but has money so it's allll goood' didn't really sit well with me either. >.>

I enjoyed it. You'll find a lot of people who complain about the writing, but E L James doesn't claim to be a writer. I liked the story and it opened my eyes to a lot of stuff. My husband is VERY happy....hahaha!

If you want a good follow-up, read Bared to You by Sylvia James. I honestly can't decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross. YUM!

Oh yes!!!! Bared to you is an awesome read!! Trying to decide between Christian Grey and Gideon Cross is hard though! Although I am leaning more towards Gideon!!!

Can I not have them both?

    Well, yes you can!

I'm not a fan. I struggled through the first book, got a short way into the second and that was all I could manage.

Ana's constant "oh my"ing made me want to beat her....and not in a sexual sense and don't get me started on her lousy "inner goddess".

I think the thing that irritates me the most about this who Fifty Shades thing is that many people have been into BDSM and erotic fiction way before these books were even conceived but it wasn't something you talked about outside of those circles because you were considered a pervert.

Now because of Christian bloody Grey and Anastasia pointless Steele, you've got all these people who think they are the first person to brandish a whip and because they are doing so this makes them new and original.....

Okay, that's the end of MY rant

I do get slightly insulted, as a writer and editor, when ****ty writing becomes this vastly popular, but it happens - Twilight, 50 Shades, or basically every book in the damned "Teen Paranormal Romance" section.

I'm glad it's making people more open to BDSM.

Though I'm gonna be honest - I work at my neighborhood pool, and I see middle aged suburban mommies sitting at the side of the pool reading porn while they watch their kids swim. Weirds me out a bit - especially when they make strange facial expressions when they're reading.

Loved them! I read all three in about 5 days.
I'm excited to see who they'll pick for the movie characters.
There were quite a few annoyances re: the writing, but the story (yes, there was actually a storyline...lol) was gripping enough to hold my attention. ;)

no there wasn't unless - sex, talk about relationship, sex, talk about relationship, sex, talk about relationship etc is a story. oh, and not even good sex.

    movie - lol

I read all three and was quite disturbed at the way they portrayed BDSM.

BDSM is SSC = safe, sane and consentual. It is not about someone wanting to "beat the living *kitten*" out of someone that looked like their mother to get off.

I can see how it is referred to as mommy porn or eye crack for those who are in vanilla lifestyles.

It was a quick and amusing read.
