So my Aspergers son is coming home from his PRTF placement and I am really excited but nervous...I can not wait to be a fulltime mom to hi again. I am worried about the intensity and the focus he requires though. Anyone else feel the same way or had a simliar experience?

  • I am not sure what a PRTF placement is? However I do know what the intense life of a mom blessed with a child who has autism.
I am homeschooling our younest son (Ethan) for now. It can be pretty intense with his sensory issues, chamges of situation or envirement etc..... He has a lot of food issues as well as he has the stubborness that just cannot be matched. That being said he loves fiercely and has a wonderful sense of humor, corks so hard in so many areas of his life, and makes my life so very blessed. You will find your new normal with him. It will have its rough moments and it will have those awesome special moments that make it all worth it! God bless you!

How long has he been there and how old is he? (just curious :)
I have a son who is 12. He was off school for over a year last year and ended up with diagnosis of Asperger and anxiety. He was only in day treatment and was at home all the time. They tried to offer us weekend care but we wanted him at home, as he rarely reacts at home - mostly when he´s (supposed to be) going somewhere. Right now he´s on Zoloft and doing really well. Started a special placement in march - at a school that is so great!
Although we have some problems with the transport, he was having a hard time this morning and wasn´t ready for the taxi. So of course I drove him and although he was 20 min. late the teacher was so nice and we had a nice talk. But I ended up an hour late for work...luckily my boss is very understanding.

But I´m also in the process of applying for hours to cover this sort of meltdown - have applied but am waiting....Then I´ll be able to get the hours covered by social benefit, so I don´t have to worry about being off work so much. I will end up with a smaller paycheck as I earn more than they cover, but it will still be nice not to get all stressed up when he has one on those days!
