SUPPER INTAKE

I think I need help. Here in the Maritimes (Canada) we have a tradition of eating our biggest meal at the end of the day. It's a habit I cannot seem to break. Not to lay blame, but partially because that's when my husband wants his biggest meal after working most of the day. And it's hard to always cook two meals (now I am making excuses rather than give reasons)...

Any Maritimers out there who can empathize? Perhaps send helpful tips on how to break my habit?

Appreciate it; thanks.

Why do you want to change this habit? Your body doesn't care when you eat, just what you eat. I have my largest meal at night. I don't see the problem...

I started cutting out carbs at my dinner. Its my biggest meal also. but instead of starving myself with just a small protein and a veggie I've swapped out carb like foods. instead of french fries i make butternut squash fries (with ketchup they taste like sweet potatoes) spegetti squash for spegetti (my husband mixed it with reg spegetti and ate it) cauliflower mash for mash potatos (husband actually ate it) friday is pizza night I use potabello mushrooms instead of dough. If I'm hungry later i will have a snack. and apple or banana with 1 tbsp dark choc chips. Since I've done this I have lost weight! and I'm not crazy hungry! Good luck!

We always have our largest meal at suppertime. My daughter and I (who are both on MFP and losing weight) eat the same foods exactly as the rest of the family. Both of us just make sure we weigh and measure our portions so we know how to calculate the foods we eat. We try to make this as simple as possible for us and for the family. I have often needed to add more calories late in the day, even as late at 11pm sometimes in order to get over the 1200 calorie barrier. My eating late in the day has not negatively affected my weight loss in any way. I'm not sure why you feel there is any need to change your eating a larger supper. Keep eating the foods you like at the time you and your body are used to. Just watch your portions. There is no need to make this any more difficult than it already is.

I grew up in a family who always had the largest meal at night. My husband did also and we continued the habit. I still like my biggest meal at suppertime. It has no effect on my weight loss efforts at all.

It will have zero effect on weight loss. It's all about calories in vs out. Meal timing and meal frequency don't have an effect.

I generally have my largest meal at the end of the day and I do not eat anything else for 16 hours... So far this eating plan has been working well for me.

I eat most of my calories in the evening. The trick is to know that you want to do it that way and to set your calories up accordingly. For me it's 200 cals for breakfast, 300 for lunch, 400 for dinner, and then 500 for one afternoon snack and two after dinner snacks. It's worked for me.

If it suits your eating habits then keep it that way. There's really no benefit to eating a smaller dinner and having more of your intake during the day. My biggest meal is dinner also.

My largest meal of the day is within a couple hours of bedtime and about half of my daily calorie intake. It also includes (gasp!) carbs like pasta, pizza, rice, potatoes, garlic bread, etc.

I'm a Maritimer too! I'm from Halifax County, living in New Brunswick, but currently dog/house sitting near New Glasgow :D

I don't have any tips for you though :( I still eat supper as the biggest meal of the day, I just eat less the rest of the day to help make up for it.
