Why do push ups/sit ups not count?

I noticed on myfitness pal, if you put in push ups/sit ups, under weight training, it doesn't say you burned any calories. Shirley you do burn some calories. Especially if you do a lot. So why doesn't this site count them?

You can use a MFP database entry for those as cardio to get calories if you look up calisthenics.
Edit to add: That's under Cardiovascular, not Strength Training.0 -
From the FAQ
Doesn't strength training burn calories? Why don't you show any calories burned for strength training?
Estimating the calories burned from strength training is very difficult because it depends on a variety of factors: how much weight you lifted per repetition, how vigorously you performed that exercise, how much rest you took between sets, etc. Because of this, we do not automatically calculate how many calories you burned from strength training exercises.
However, if you'd like, you can add "Strength training" as a cardio exercise to get a rough estimate of how many calories you burned. Please be aware though that this is definitely a rough estimate and can be fairly inaccurate.

I made up my own exercise and I read that each push up is valued at 1/2 calorie. You go to my exercise new exercise and create your own. .I did it with planks also.0

They aren't cardio - MFP only counts cardio exercises as burning extra calories. And don't call me Shirley
Edit: haha @ stumblinthru - on the same wavelength0 -
This is why I've learned to love circuit training in the last few months, it combines cardio and strength moves so that your heart rate is more elevated throughout the set. You might alternate jumping jacks, then a set of arm weights with squats. Or a nice set or two of situps followed by a set of burpees.0

Yes I've started circuit training too. It def does help, as opposed to just lifting weights.0 -
your heartrate should have zero bearing on resistance training. as in it's a useless measure of anything and should be ignored.. different energy systems of the body. This is why I've learned to love circuit training in the last few months, it combines cardio and strength moves so that your heart rate is more elevated throughout the set. and circuits are not strength training. resistance training maybe. but strength training has a very definite description. it's maximal force movements.0 -
Use Runtastic apps when you do them & it will give you how much you have burnt,0
