I am trying to lose weight and I am constantly over my protein. (I've only been logging for today but it's always high).
Is too much detrimental to my weight loss?

I'm not sure, but i'm about to find out. I'm not quite at my goal weight, but about 5 lbs away, which is close enough for me to shift gears and get into weights more than cardio...Im taking two scoops of protein per day, and eating tons of steak and chicken.0

No. Myfitnesspal sets protein way too low. I drink 2 shakes a day and have some type of lean meat ror dinner or lunch usually (turkey or chicken) and I have been losing weight. Just make sure that you are getting enough healthy carbs into your diet.0

I am always over. Sometimes as much as 25 and I have lost 30 pounds so far since February.0

How would you even know since you are not even logging your food?
One day of logging?

And the answer is no.0 -

I go over on protein all the time. It hasn't hurt my weight loss.0

good grief - she means she has only logged it on MFP today, but tracks it another way most days
and no, it will be helpful, not hurtful0 -
Too much protein isn't bad for weight-loss. In fact, I think it's better to have more than not enough, in my opinion. Though, too much protein can be hard on your kidneys. But if you have healthy kidneys, I wouldn't worry about it too much.0

it's very hard to gain weight by JUST eating protein. you have to work muscles a lot before the protein converts to muscle. It cannot chemically convert to fat it just converts to urea/nitrogen. you need protein + fat + exercise to grow muscle. absent a high carb diet, very hard to gain fat. so if you like protein, eat it. that's the Atkins message basically.0

Nope. I eat 110-140 g protein per day.0

Since hitting my goal weight and started weight lifting I have been doing about 175g to 200g or protein a day. I haven't gained any weight. I have maintained the weight for a almost a year now.0

Well if Batman says it, I have to take that as fact.0 -
Protein listed is minimum requirements. You can decide and adjust the MFP macronutrient profile and set you protein percentage.0

Learn to write a paragraph with necessary information. Given your other responses, you clearly don't want to learn anything. I'm out. Good luck in your weight loss endeavors.0 -
No, and MFP sets it really low so you're probably not even close to being "way over". When I'm in the red for protein, I see it as a good thing.0
