down 2 lbs

Two pounds in first week, even though I only joined mfp yesterday. I did slip up yesterday with bbq chicken. It falls into the eating for pleasure category. I have used food as a source of comfort and stress relief all my life and I need to work on changing that. I could have had a grilled cutlet but instead had the wings and thighs covered with sauce. It is always enjoyable at the time but then you get FAT and more miserable so you eat more to feel better. Its a bad cycle to get in and a hard one to break!!

I'm in the exact same boat--2 lbs in my first week. Congrats!

I'll say this though, food should still be enjoyable no matter what. I don't look at food as simply fuel, as I think it's one of life's great pleasures. Keep going strong, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

Great job so far! I'm not trying to discourage you AT ALL, but your loss will usually be bigger at first because your body is adjusting to the healthy changes you make. You'll lose a lot of water weight. So just don't get discouraged if your weight loss starts slowing down!

But awesome job on changing your lifestyle and already seeing progress :) Also, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a "treat" (like BBQ) sometimes. As long as you are staying within your calorie goals, you will lose weight. Of course healthy foods are better, but there's no use completely cutting out your favorite foods. Everything in moderation!

And it can continue. I've been doing this four months and lose a little more than two pounds a week, an average of 11 a month. Just stick to at or slighly below your calorie goal, recalculate when you lose some weight, and it will happen!

Do you folks weigh yourself at your home or wait until you have your Dr. appointment? Just wondering.

2lbs is better than none. Don't be too hard on yourself, it'll get easier.

I can second this - I only joined a couple of weeks ago and lost 3-4 pounds in my first week, but now it's taking longer to lose the same amount. keep going though, and you'll notice a small difference every few days which will let you know it's working!

Whereas I've only lost .5 pounds per week. Some people just lose faster than others, regardless of how they eat or exercise. The important thing is to feel good about your successes and not get derailed by your troubles.

Great Job with weight lose. You can also make your own BBQ sauce, use low fat things, and natural stuff to marinate chicken in. I use this alot Olive oil, fresh lemon juice, apple vin, fresh garlic, mustard, splenda brown sugar, salt & pepper, marinate over night for best results. You can also play with it a little, use hot sauce, or BBQ suace, instead of mustard, only use about TBLS of each, it's alot less fatting then all the store bought sauces....

I weigh myself at home where I know it will be consistent.

I work in a Dr's office with four scales that are not calibrated the same (causing a few pounds diff between them all).

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I like what was said about not letting your troubles derail you. Thats always a tip to keep in mind. Yes, I know all the secret tips and healthy recipes. I could write a book, believe me. But like Bill Phillips said, "there is a world of difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it." I love that saying!! Fact is I planned to eat chicken cutlet. Even cooked extra the day before with grilled veggies. But my daughter came home for the weekend from college and asked me to make bbq chicken. I wish I could have just cooked it and been done. But of course, I had to have one. And then one became four!!
