My name is Crystal, I am 25 years old and live in small town MN. I currently live with my boyfriend of 4 years and our 2 year old German Shepherd Willow:smile: . I have always struggled with weight, being only 4’11, weight gain shows fast and easily. My dream is to someday compete in a fitness competition. I know I have a tough road ahead but I am positive I can make it happen!

I have decided to quit giving up! 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease. I know it’s very common in people but for me it was an awakening! I had been working out hard for several months, and seeing no progress I would quit and succumb to the not so pleasant symptoms of hypothyroidism; extreme fatigue, no energy, cold all the time and of course gaining some weight even though I was working hard.

It’s time to get this show on the road and get myself where I want to be. I know that I don’t have an extreme amount of weight to lose, and people always ask why I want to lose weight. I don’t want to be skinny I want to be FIT! I want to wake up every morning feeling like I am the best I can be. I want to be happy with myself. So, here’s to the beginning of a new chapter and a new happier me.
**Looking for some MFP friends to keep me motivated! ADD ME IF YOU NEED A NEW FRIEND:wink:

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life, Crystal! Kudos to you for deciding to make healthy, positive changes in your life. The best advice I can give you is 1) Know your numbers - Calculate your BMR and TDEE

(BMR calculator can be found on the Apps tab - use this for the tdee: http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html)

Stay ABOVE BMR and BELOW TDEE and you will be OK. The biggest mistake people make is going straight for MFP's rock bottom number of 1200 calories and starve themselves. Know that you can have WHATEVER YOU WANT as long as its in moderation and fits in your numbers for the day. This is a lifestyle not a diet.

    Good luck!
