I know I know
But I'm Addicted & I don't want to stay up until 1 every night.
How can I stop myself from drinking it?(much harder than it seems).

Oh man I'm right there with you. If someone has advice I'd like some as well! I've switched from regular soda to diet but dropping it completely has been a lot harder than I anticipated.0

Hi....I don't drink coffee or tea but diet drinks like Pepsi Max which are loaded with caffeine ..And I'm a poor sleeper . At present I drink 5-6 cans a day (no calories but very Addictive) So at the beginning of each week I plan to reduce my daily usage by one can per day . So in six weeks time I hope to only be having one or no Pepsi each day . If you go "Cold Turkey" you will probably feel sick , have headache etc and cravings so do it slowly . Good Luck ..........Christine0

I've cut back to 2-4 coffees a day. I don't have anything else with caffeine in it. Sadly, caffeine doesn't keep me awake :sad:0

I too want to stop. it is all mental. I have read that you cut out coffee by a third every three days, will stop side effects of quitting.
A friend had got me drinking green tea with skim milk and stevia, it gives me that decadent feeling of comfort. I don't feel as deprived. green tea is a natural fat burner. read replacing your coffee with g.t. will result in 10 lb. weight loss, or so I have read.0 -
I had to go to the emergency room twice with an irregular heartbeat and was told caffeine could be an aggravating factor so I cut it out completely, cold turkey. Switched to decaf at Starbucks, started drinking root beer or caffeine-free cola, and stocked up on decaf teas. It really wasn't that difficult since pretty much every caffeinated beverage has a decaf version (except some sodas like Mountain Dew and Dr Pepper).
As for staying up late because you're wired, that seems fairly easy to solve - just don't drink anything caffeinated after a certain time, like maybe 4 or 5 hours before bedtime. That would still give you 12 or 13 caffeine-drinking hours in a day.0 -
+1 on this. I also took Scooby's advice and switched to green tea about a month ago. No more problems with sleep and I don't get my normal afternoon headaches anymore. I found it to be much easier to drink something else rather than messing up coffee for myself. I still drink coffee now and then, but waaaaayyyy less than before.0 -
As I got older I seemed to get more sensitive to caffeine and just couldn't sleep properly anymore.
I weaned myself down to one cup and then switched to decaf. I still got that burst of energy from it for a while, it was almost as if my body expected there to be caffeine so it felt energised. It actually took 3 weeks for my body to notice that decaf was not the same. Now I can have a coffee or a frozen coke now and then without immediately wanting another 5 (this was the case for the first 6 months or so), but I went a long time without and I now notice even more just how much is disrupts my sleep when I do have it.0 -
My favorite drink, coffee! I've cut it down to 2 (to 4) mugs a day. Green tea has the least amount of caffeine over the choice of coffee or black tea, so I drink that later in the day. On my better days, I choose a flavored herbal tea, like chai, ginger, or cinnamon. Spicy tea seems to satisfy that coffee urge.
A healthier alternative to caffeine may be ginseng. I take a small amount, twice a day, with coffee. But do be careful with the ginseng if you decide to try it, as it can spike blood pressure if you take too much, and it makes some people really hyper and/or grumpy.
Eta - I stop caffeine by 6pm, and a cup or two of chamomile tea helps me fall asleep.0 -
Why do you want to cut out caffeine? All the recent health studies show coffee has positive, not negative effects on health. Unless you have a heart condition or some other condition your doctor is recommending you cut it out, or you can't keep from adding a ton of sugar and cream for weight loss, or you are drinking excessive caffeine (more than 4-6 cups/day coffee) or energy drinks, its not going to help and in fact will probably hurt your weight loss journey. Just drink it early in the day and stop early afternoon, that usually prevents the late nights.0

I sleep so badly if I have even a small amount of caffeine and caffeine dependency is a horrible feeling. Who enjoys that crash in the afternoon after having a cup of coffee in the morning? And the headaches.
I haven't had caffeine for 4 months and I've felt much better for it. It certainly has NOT damaged my weight loss progress!
I went cold turkey, but had to take headache tablets as you do get withdrawal headaches (that should be telling you something!). But after about a week or so I didn't feel like I needed coffee to wake up anymore. I still don't. I am more awake and alert in the morning than I used to be before a coffee, when I used to drink it.0
