I always struggle with meals as my husband is a steak & potatoes (topped with a ton of cheese and sour cream) kind of guy, or stuffed burgers made with 80/20 beef, tator tot hot dish kind of guy.
I am looking for recipes that will help me lose weight, but will also be satisfying to my husband and kid friendly. I have used several recipes on sites like skinnytaste and spark people, but have yet to find those few meals that we can just keep in rotation because they are not time consuming, filled with numerous amounts of ingredients and actually taste good.
If you have any suggestions on meals, mainly dinner type ones, I would greatly appreciate it. This past few weeks has been nights of cooking various meals for all of us or just feeding the kid what he wants, I end up with protein shake or yogurt and husband makes calorie and carb loaded sandwich with chips and dip

My dinners this week are steak and bean burritos, pork chops, steamed squash and couscous, steak, zucchini/onion and fried rice, usually do breakfast one night and then pizza one night. Dinner is my biggest meal of the day - I usually keep around 600-700 calories for dinner.0

If you can get your hands on it, try Bison. It's freaking delicious, but expensive. I find turkey burgers hard to compare to a nice, juicy beef burger, but I do like black bean burgers. Gotta watch the sodium with those though, unless you make them at home.
I'm mean, I make my husband eat what I do. If he don't like it, he can take up the cooking :devil:0 -
Stews and chili are usually pretty satisfying. Just use leaner meats and add lots of veggies. You could top it with cheese and/or serve with rice, potato or cornbread for those that arent counting calories, and skip those extras for yourself if you don't have room for the calories.
If you substitute 1/2 the potatoes in mashed potatoes with cooked cauliflower it's not likely to be noticed because potatoes have a much stronger flavor. But it can cut the calories in half. Use reduced fat sour cream instead of full fat to further cut calories. Mushroom gravy is very low calorie and takes about 5 min to make.
Pork loin is low fat and wonderful when roasted with sweet potatoes and turnips, or butternut/acorn squash.
But really you could grill, roast, pan sear, (just about anything other than breaded and fried) any meat or fish, serve with a veg side and then make a starchy side that you could skip or only have a small portion of and create a tasty meal that the whole family can enjoy.0
