When did you start to see a change in the mirror/clothes?

Hiya MFPs :)

Just wondering when did you start to notice a change in your appearance? I'm 11lbs down although I've been here a while I have only recently started to lose weight. I'm also down a belt loop on my jeans...but here's the thing, in the mirror and in general I really can't tell a difference.

I wondered how noticable you guys found your first losses?

Will I ever notice the change or is my mind just always going to see the old me?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I really noticed a difference after I lost about 20 pounds... but it really depends on how much you have to lose. The best way to see a difference is to take progress pictures! I didn't think I looked all that different but I compared my current picture to my starting weight picture and I was shocked at how much better I look.

well, your eyes play tricks on you quite a bit, my belt changed almost immediately but I never really thought nothing of it. Then there was the wardrobe changes that really just felt expensive. But I began to notice when others began to notice me. It's different being looked through or away from your entire life to now being a focal point. Its hard to describe but still it wasn't a good enough reason to continue. I just simply was afraid of going back to what I once was cause it was too dark and full of hatred. I like the way I am and the happiness weight loss and muscle gains have given me. Looking back on it I can barely identify with the guy below me, but I will never forget him :)

Dang I almost cried typing this^_^ See what you made me do lol,

    Cheers

At about 20 pounds. And even that was after I got the "did you lose weight?"s.

I agree with above poster, take progress pictures and note down your measurements. If I didn't do that I wouldn't have believed how much weight I lost...lol

Belt loop decreases are something to be celebrated though! :) Congrats!

Thank you for the advice. I took some before pics discreetly, no way am I ready to share them just yet but I will take some during as well I didn't really think about doing that just thought I would take some afters once I had gotten rid of the weight. If you both think 20lbs I guess I just need to be a bit patient. My fear was I would never see the change, so you have given me some hope - thank you :). And thanks for the congrats on the loss so far...its just weird seeing belt changed and feeling the same. I can't afford any new clothes yet so am still wearing my normal ones.

    Thanks again x

I nutri bulleted (destroyed) my wedding ring yeaterday !
  • I used to be really big. right about 395 pounds. i think i "noticed" it when i first lost around the 30 pound mark as well. i was wearing a 4x size shirt which was starting to get a bit tight at that point. lost that first bit of weight and ended up trying on an old 3x i'd had from before and it actually fit, still too tight and all but i mean i couldn't even button it before. so it takes a lot of time. that thing you hear everybody say- you didn't put it on overnight it's not going to come off overnight, is really true.

I am in the same boat ... I FEEL different ... the way i workout, the things I can do etc. but I don't actually see anything different. I still think my cheeks are puffy, my arms are too giggly, and my stomach is a mess ... I don't really know what to say about it. I just know the scale is moving, my body is happy that I am making it work and eating right ... my mind is going to have to get itself together lol

How much do you have to lose? It's largely dependent on that. Someone with a lot to lose is going to have to lose a lot before noticing any massive changes. I looked slightly different after my first 20 lbs and had gone down a belt loop, but there really wasn't any really drastic changes that people noticed. My last 20 lbs has been another story...I look completely different now and 3 belt holes down...my face is pretty much not even recognizable in oldr pictures as compared to now.

Hi guys thank you for replies and sharing your experiences. To pp I have another 31 lbs to go, I've lost 11 so far. I am encouraged you all started to notice given time, so I guess I need to be a little more patient :)

For what it's worth, I've been doing before and after pictures every 5 lbs. or so since January, and I'd say it takes 10 or 15 lbs. for me to notice a difference in the pictures. Other people didn't seem to notice until I had hit 20-25 lbs., and even then, it was usually people who hadn't seen me in a while. But I noticed shifts in how clothes fit much sooner. Those trousers that were uncomfortably tight in January were too loose by March, and look like a clown costume now.

In the mirror I almost never noticed a difference when I lost weight, due to seeing myself every day. In photos is where I saw the difference! If someone took a photo of me and I saw it and thought whoa - I look good! Then compare it to photos from before. They help.

I've lost 11 pounds and I can see it a tiny bit around my belly/bust, but overall I can't tell. Pictures don't help either. Waiting for it to be noticeable :/

It's just so gradual when you look in the mirror every day. I keep thinking I look the same, and then I remember markers, like now my upper abs are 'inside' my ribs from the side now. I have to actually recall that they were outside of them before, lol. It's weird how that can look the same to you, but that's familiarity, I guess :)

I find clothes easier to know. If you have anything that was too tight, keep trying it on every so often. I have some gardening shorts that I actually split once that I tried on yesterday, and they are positively baggy. I tried on some old jeans that were too tight to even get on my thighs, and they go on now. It's always helpful to have some clothes on hand that don't fit anymore, lol :D

edit - This is at 11-12 or so lbs lost from when I really started paying attention (not my known high weight if that makes sense). It did not take all that many lbs for me to notice!
