I love when someone comes to MFP and says they've gained 2 lbs over the past 6 weeks...... and people respond with "eat more" and "starvation mode."

    Jesus.

8 pound 6 oz Jesus, or big crucified Jesus?

in for starvation mode and the wild platypuses.........wait platypi???

    he!!.......i'm just in!! :drinker:
  • You are gaining because you are either eating more than you think, or working out less than you think. Possibly both.
  • 1200 cal and 500-800 cals burned 5-6 days a week?
If this is accurate you've definitely got metabolic damage. Your net calories isn't even enough for proper organ function.

I'd increase my calories if I were you. Then you will probably start losing weight. Doesn't sound right I know but that's how it works.

    Gotta fuel the fire.

    This guy gets it

are you sure you're really burning that many calories? Are you sure you're accurate in how many calories are in the foods you're eating?

Without a doubt the must frustrating and annoying aspect of MFP.
  • Mostly like over estimating burn, underestimating food. If you really are eating that little, you most likely are doing a lot of damage. You probably need a diet break. You can't live in a deficit your whole life. Especially not one that large. But I have a feeling your numbers are off.

500 cal burn workout is like the equivalent of working out at a SPRINT pace for 50 minutes. I'm thinking you're burning way less than you think. Also, your body is in starvation mode. 1200 cal intake for working out 6 days a week is way too low. Eating that few lowers your metabolism and has a counter affect. I would also try shorter but more intense workouts as a change.

''Starvation mode'' doesn't happened unless you're at a low body weight..

Plenty of people have been commenting with no shortage of confidence. Confidence isn't the issue

i was always told that i should eat more to lose. maybe add a few hundred cals for about a week or so to see if there is a change. like this week add 200 cals and continue doing your workouts, then see what happens after 2 weeks or so. good luck.:flowerforyou:

Have you had a COMPLETE Thyroid panel done? TSH, Free T4 and T3? Also a Measurement of serum thyroid autoantibodies and thyroglobulin to test for Hashimotos Thyroiditis (which I have but it didn't show up on just a TSH and but did on a titre). Hashimotos is FAMOUS for not showing up on TSH but a complete panel done by a specialist familiar will know EXACTLY what to look for and how to treat it! If you don't get the right answers from your PCP...move on to another. =D
This sounds like the most sound idea.

AGREE, AGREE, AGREE. I had a situation similar to the OP's years ago (exercising like a crazy person, netting 500 calories or less a day, and still gaining 5 to 10 pounds a month). It was a raging case of hashimoto's - antibodies so high the lab stopped counting... If she is truly getting that much exercise and counting calories faithfully (gotta measure EVERYTHING), then a full workup with the list above should really be the next step.
