I bought a sportline watch from walmart and i think it is a piece of junk. I am returning it because it doesnt work half the time at least not properly. so i would not recomend this watch.

I received the Polar F6 for my birthday and I love it!!! It is a bit pricey, but you are going to get what you pay for. I have lost more weight with this HRM than I did before I had it.

the most accurate will be the ones that take the reading from a chest strap, there are several good ones, depending on your budget, any of the models by Polar are usually good.

A heart rate monitor with a chest strap. Not just the watch. You need a strap to get the most accurate HR reading so you get the best calories result reading

I bought the Polar FT7 and I really like it. It's comfortable (you really need one with a chest strap to accuratley track your heart rate).

If you search the community for "HRM" you'll see a lot of recommendations. You can also look at my post history to see the recommendations I got in early October before I purchased mine.

    Good luck!

I want to get one for myself, but I am worried about some bad reviews I read on Amazon...

Also, does it count your daily calories spent or only when you exercise?

I have the Polar F4 and it's the best investment I have made for my body. I only use it during workouts and it tells me how many calories I have burned, what my heart rate is, and gives me a summery at the end of my workout.

    I. Love. It.

Try http://www.consumersearch.com/heart-rate-monitors; that site gathers reviews on any type of product out there, and then analyzes the reviews and makes recs. Really helpful for almost anything!
