No cookbook recommendations. But I have a niece with a dairy allergy and have found the Earth Balance butter is a very good option for dairy free butter. I substitute it whenever I cook for her (which isn't too often) and it holds up well in all the recipes I have tried, including baking brownies, cupcakes and making buttercream frosting. I made butter cookies with the Earth Balance and they didn't taste any different, but generated a bit more crumbs.

We already use earth balance and other types of vegan butters...it will require more scratch made things as a lot of products contain milk in them.

Vegan on the Cheap is good. But I normally just go to the website vegweb.com. If you eat meat you can always add that in to any recipe.
