Staying Motivated

Ever since I was little I've been a big girl and because of that my entire life has been a struggle with my weight. I've tried to diet and exercise countless times before now. For some reason I always lose my drive and motivation to keep going and end up in a slump or stopping all together. This is a little bit more than discouraging... BUT! I'm starting again now and DETERMINED to lose weight, I just want some ideas on how to keep feeling this way so I won't quit.

Hey there, it really helps to have the accountability of others. OH a LOT it helps!!! ;) Another thing is of course the wonderful calorie tracking! ;)

Yeah I really think the one thing that helped me be a success with my weight loss was my regular meeting on nutrition I had on tuesdays way back.

Which is why I plan on posting to these boards in my "Summer Challenge" motivation blog...until teh 65 is gone! ;)

The reason people think they need all of this motivation is because they make all of this out to be much harder than it is...they think that they have to be super restrictive in their calorie intake, when in reality a modest deficit of 500 calories or so per day is just fine and very easy. They think they have to exercise for hours on end jumping around to DVDs and droning away on cardio machines; in reality, all people really need to do is get out and do something for 30 - 60 minutes most days...and it can be something fun too like going for a hike or taking the dog our for a jog or hopping on the bicycle for a nice ride.

People make all of this out to be far more difficult than it needs to be. None of this is hard. Eating wholesome and nutritious food does not mean that you have to eat salad after salad after salad with no dressing and suck on celery sticks all day. Nutrition doesn't have to be bland and boring...I'm a foodie and I can assure you that nothing I eat is bland or boring yet my nutrition is exceptional.

Some motivation may be needed initially, but if you're relying on motivation to keep you going, it's never going to work. Ultimately, positive nutritional and fitness habits have to take root and become a part of who you are, not some weird extra thing you are doing in the moment. This is because motivation comes and goes...habits die hard.
