Coping with feelings and not eating them...

Hi! I am new to this whole "weight loss" thing. I started the other day and messed up some last night, throwing me off a bit. I started fresh again today and am back on track. I guess I just really need some help finding ways to keep myself from eating out of boredom or frustration. I have a lot of family issues, but I am not in school right now so free therapy is not an option. How do you cope with feelings and not eat them? Does this make sense?
Thank you!

You have to find things to do like read, exercise, or talk to friends until the urges pass. Drinking water also helps.

Honestly, you just need to find other ways to distract yourself/pass the time. Working out, spending time with friends/family, watching a movie, etc. Also, make sure you're eating foods that keep you full. I pre-plan snacks a lot too, so I know I can have something after dinner and before bed time.

  • What helps me the most is any kind of exercise, but especially going for a nice, long walk while listening to music or podcasts that I really like. It totally helps to clear my head!

I have always found busy hands help. I have cross stitched while watching TV so I can't eat.

I've found that I snack if I'm not mentally engaged with whatever I'm doing. Exercise or other activities that keep my mind occupied seem to work well.

If the food available is equally boring, it can help.

I'm home a lot also. I've made it a habit to only eat at the table, which helps with mindless snacking. Also drink a lot of water, and stay out of the kitchen. I clean a lot, or spend time in the yard with the kids.

learn to play an instrument - or play it if you already play. find an engrossing activity or more than one, and get involved with it.

if all else fails, spend time on workout and weight loss boards, or research foods and health obsessively.
