Hi Everyone. New to this group and so impressed with all of you, but feeling rather inadequate as well. This is my second pregnancy. I gained 35 pounds with baby no. 1 (a girl), and it was really hard for me to lose the weight (couldn't lose while breastfeeding and I breastfed for a year). Eventually lost the weight and more, but slowly started gaining a bit (I'm a lacto-vegetarian and tried a low carb, gluten free diet for 6 months and it is the strictest I've ever been, but I gained 13 pounds and just couldn't get rid of it again). Anyway, I started this pregnancy 7 pounds heavier than the first one. Now I'm having a boy and am growing so quickly! Doesnt help that I don't get very nauseas in the first trimester, but am hungry.

So, now I'm panicking. I'm 18 weeks and have gained 8.8 pounds already :( I love working out and have done everything from all Jillian Michaels dvds loads of times, to Insanity, Chalean Extreme and P90X3, plus starting weight training over the months prior to pregnancy. Usually a min of 5 days a week. Now I'm averaging 4 times a week and obviously the intensity has dropped (doing Tracy Anderson's pregnancy project, plus some Jillian and Chalean) but I just keep gaining. I think it's the craving for bread and dairy. I'm averaging around 1600 cals a day.

    SW: 133.54
    CW: 142.56

18 weeks. Gain of 4.4 pounds in the last week and a half alone.

I'm so sad because I am not feeling beautiful and I think this is such an amazingly special time in a woman's life and I want to feel good about myself, but this little guy is making my grow sideways instead of forwards and my bum is massive!

I haven't been an angel with eating every day. Weekends are usually pretty lax and I had a 2 week holiday in June.

Is there any way I can curb this weight gain? I really dont want to be more than 155 pounds by the end of this, but that only leaves me 6 more pounds and that doesnt seem likely. Very frustrating!

    Any suggestions?

P.S. So jealous of you all - hee hee ;)

I think you are doing a fabulous job! Anfd from your profile pix you look great. 8.8 lbs at 18 weeks is pretty fantastic. But 1600 cals seems awfully low to me unless you are also eating back you're exercise calories?? I know its hard to see the scale go up. I have a daily battle with it myself but we are suppose to gain and we can't forget that. And although its hard not to do since we all share how we are doing but you need to not compare yourself to others. For some reason I am not gaining as quickly as I did with my 1st but I still have 9+ weeks left and you never know what'll happen ;-)

I've said it before and I will continue to say it - I think we ALL deserve kudos for logging into MFP, being conscious of what we're eating and being active all while growing babies.

    Keep up the good work!

I must be gaining water weight or baby is having some kinda major growth spurt!

    Pre-Pregnancy: 150lbs
    Current Weight (22.5 weeks): 152.4lbs

Not a huge gain, but yesterday the scale said 150lbs AND I walked at a semi-brisk pace for an hour AND ate very healthy. Oh well, about time I gain something

You've only gained 2.4 lbs at 22.5 weeks!? LUCKY duck :) It could be water weight, it could be baby growth spurt but personally I wouldn't put much thought in it considering you haven't gained your entire pregnancy. LOL!

Thank you so much for your very kind and encouraging words. I know I'm being irrational most of the time, but you know how it goes. I had to work so hard to lose weight the last time, I swore I wouldn't do it to myself again, and here I am, heading in the same direction. I guess we can only do our best.

Went to NC for a week to spend time with mil before baby arrives. She cooks with full fat everything and desserts all the time. Plus it was so hot that I couldn't go for walks without getting sick from the heat. Oh well back to the grind this week and adding in more workouts to help with the bulge. At this point in my last pregnancy I was 194lbs. Yikes! I'm glad I'm not doing that again. I was so miserable! Much better this time around.

During the last trimester the baby is doing his most growing and trying to limit your weight gain could leave you discouraged and result in you not doing what's in the best interest of you and baby. Try not to put an artificial cap on your weight gain. Weight gained is not always fat gained--many people gain SEVERAL pounds in water weight alone during the last trimester which could easily reach the 6'pounds total that you have left to gain before you reach the weight you're comfortable with for the entire pregnancy. That's just not realistic--not trying to be mean in the slightest. Maybe not weighing yourself would be in your best interest if it's hard for you to emotionally detach from the number you see on the scale.

I completely understand where you're coming from! I gained 50 lbs with my son, and only lost about 25 of them before turning around and gaining them back by the time he was 1 year old. I started this pregnancy a mere 5 lbs lighter than I was when I DELIVERED my son!!!   :noway:

As others have said, keep in mind that just because your weight/numbers are going up, it doesn't mean that it's all fat gained! When they recommend 25-35 lbs for an average woman, only about 7-10 lbs of that is actual fat. The rest is the placenta, water weight, the baby, the 30% extra blood in your body, your breasts/milk, etc...!!! I think I gained 12 lbs in almost 2 weeks at the end of my first pregnancy from water/swelling alone. So, try not to focus too much on the numbers. Just use them as a guide, and adjust accordingly.

Eat lots of healthy foods, drink as much water as you can stand and exercise! Other than the growth spurts where you'll see a 2-4 lb gain within a week or two, just keep an eye on the gains. If you see an excessive gain after eating junk for a couple days, then cut back on the junk. If you haven't changed your diet at all, it's probably a growth spurt. If you gain a few lbs, and start swelling it's probably water weight. Drink more water, eat less sodium, etc... Don't stress! :drinker:

So far, it seems you're on track to a healthy weight! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the amazing advice, encouragement and kind words. This is why it's so important to reach out for support. I have been feeling much better about myself in the last day or so, and am focusing on trying to be positive. I have been very hungry and had 2 lunches in the past couple of days, but I'm not beating myself up because I really was very hungry. Plus I workout after lunch and I think that's why I get so hungry in the afternoons. One day at a time eh :)

Thanks again. Looking forward to seeing how we all progress.

I was actually a higher weight mid-week and thought that was it for sure, but this morning's weigh-in showed a lower amount. No complaints here. :) I guess it was water retention, or all of the excess carbs I've been having lately. Still, not bad. I'm pleased with a 3 lbs gain at 19 weeks. I fully expected to be way heavier when we planned to get pregnant. I have my anatomy scan this Wednesday, so I'm getting pretty nervous and excited for that! Hoping I get to see baby's gender (we couldn't see with my daughter until a later ultrasound), and that baby is healthy. I've got a pretty busy week ahead of me! Hoping I can keep the carbs to my goal, they've been pretty out of control lately.

    Pre pregnancy weight: 196lbs

week 33 (current) : 221 lbs = 25lb gain within the last two trimesters. Currently on between 1800-2000 calories.

Can't help but feel like I'm gaining too much, every app and website I visit, I'm over the recommended gain.. :frown:

I would really appreciate any advice on what I can do to slow down this weight gain, this week I'm 3lbs up.

I am storing water, my wedding rings digging in to me! I'm really suffering terrible BH and back ache so this weight can't be helping. I'm drinking around 1-2 litres of water a day. My diet isn't that bad but I must be able to tweak it somewhere..

Congratulations to all you ladies, pregnancy isn't the easiest thing in the world to deal with when trying to remain on a diet and control your weight. :flowerforyou:

Started previous pregnancies around 145 and ended up around 190.

    Week 4. 160 lbs
    Week 10 161 lbs
    Week 11 159.6 lbs
    Week 12 160 lbs
    Week 13 159.2 lbs

I've had an increase in morning sickness which does not impress me. I want to go back to just nausea....

My abdomen popped this week and grew 2 inches.

Hoping I get to see baby's gender (we couldn't see with my daughter until a later ultrasound), and that baby is healthy. I've got a pretty busy week ahead of me! Hoping I can keep the carbs to my goal, they've been pretty out of control lately.

I'm 21 weeks and gained about 15-16lbs :0. How did you just gain 3?! Haha I'm jealous. My official weigh in is tomorrow so I'll get my accurate weight then. I haven't been weighing accurately lately cause I'm too lazy to undress haha

I've been eating 1900-2100 calories a day (and I'm 5'2). Not much in the way of exercise, although this week & next I'll be getting more since I'm walking my daughter to Kindergarten. I was super active before pregnancy and since I got pregnant it's like the "blahs" have taken over, lol. I'm not sure how it's stayed down to 3, to be honest! I do however, weigh all of my food on a food scale, so my logging is pretty accurate. I don't typically go over my goal unless I've done alot that day. But man, I live on carbs! I have been expecting all pregnancy to pack on the pounds. I'm pretty sure I gained over 40 lbs with my daughter 6 years ago, so this lesser gain has totally thrown me for a loop, lol. Maybe it's because I log everyday and weigh my food. Whatever it is though, is working, so I'll just keep doing it, lol.

I find that I gain faster if I eat too many carbs/sugar vs protein, etc... Bagels, white breads, and such are my enemy and I gain quickly with them. Everyone is different, but maybe try eating more protein and green veggies and limit carbs and sugar?
Also keep in mind that during the last 10 weeks, the baby itself is mostly just packing on fat, so between that and the water weight you get from swelling you may see a few jumps in lbs. Those will come off quickly though. I was down 20 lbs by my 6 week appointment post partum. So don't stress too much! :flowerforyou:

As far as water, the recommended daily intake for a (non-pregnant) woman is about 2 liters. Maybe try upping your water intake a little, it might help some with the swelling. And be careful about your rings! I've had a few friends who had to have theirs cut off because they wore them too long in pregnancy and swelled up too much!

Overall it sounds like you're doing fairly well, though! If you're really concerned, discuss it with your doctor and see how they feel about it.

According to doctor's scale: (weighing in the afternoon with clothes on)
    9weeks: 128.8
    14weeks: 130.8
    Today at 15weeks: 130.8

My doctor approved of my calorie intake (1600-1800 cals a day depending on my activity level) and said because I started out at a lower weight, I can gain up to 30 lbs but he wouldn't worry if it was only 20-25. I've learned with each pregnancy so far that I will gain what I will gain, but I will say that I never logged calories with my other two babies so I am curious to see if it makes a difference. :)

I've gained another 2.2 pounds since Thursday last week. Sigh. I had a perfect workout week last week too (got my 5 days in).

19 weeks today. Total gain 10.5 pounds

Not thrilled. I have been super thirsty today, so hoping maybe I'm retaining a some water.
