Hi Ladies!
I am currently 20w+5d. So far I have gained ~9lbs. My starting wait was 230lbs, 5'9". How do you guys keep your sweet tooth away? I crave sweets all day every day. It is hard to not give in! I only keep dried fruit at my desk, but as soon as I get home...
My Dr. reccommended I gain 15lbs max, and now that I have gained more than half already, I'm scared I will go over!
Thanks all!

I have struggled with this towards the end of my pregnancy really badly! What has been working for me is snacking on grapes and cheese. The grapes are great for mindless popping something in your mouth and the cheese provides protein. I make my own plain yogurt and its so delicious, with or without honey! I like to have a big bowl right after dinner when I'm craving dessert. Fresh fruit smoothies with a plain yogurt or kefir base are good, too. Oh, I've been doing a glass of plain kefir at night before bed. Its so tangy, it sort of works and takes away the craving for sugar. I just make my own and its really easy!
Sugar is a real addiction. (I know b/c I'm an ex-smoker and I've gone through the same withdrawal problems with sugar as with quitting smoking). You really have to just avoid it, find a substitute that works for you, and eventually it gets easier to say no.0 -
How do you make your yogurt and kefir?? I might have to try this!0

I try to steer myself toward things like strawberries, peanut butter, or chocolate protein shakes when the cravings strike0

Yogurt is super easy! You need some mason jars, a wooden or plastic stirring spoon, and a candy thermometer. I make a gallon at a time. So take a gallon of milk (I use 2% or whole b/c I don't like fat free stuff) and heat in up to 175 degrees, stirring often. Let it sit around 175 for 10 minutes and then remove from heat. Allow it to come down to about 110 degrees. Then I take a cup of plain yogurt from a previous batch (or from the store) and mix some of the warm milk into it and stir it up really well. Pour it all into the big pot. Stir again. Ladle into my mason jars. (I do one half gallon and several quart jars). Put on their lids. Then put in your oven with the light on. The oven with the light on should keep them around 100 degrees all night. I do it in the evening and let them sit overnight. About 12 hours or so is good. Then pop 'em in the fridge and you're all set! If you want thicker yogurt, you can strain them through some cheese cloth or a thin kitchen cloth.
For the kefir, you have to buy milk kefir grains. I got some recently from Etsy and they've worked great! Just pour your milk into a quart size mason jar, add kefir grains, cover with a cloth and rubberband and let sit for 24 hours. Then stir and strain through a non-metal fine strainer into a clean jar and refrigerate. You can toss the grains back into the used jar and just add milk and do it again or add a little milk and refrigerate if you don't want to make more right away. Its so easy!
There are plenty of You tube videos for making either if you're more of a visual person, too!0 -
I usually work it into my calorie goal.
If I don't do that then I'm going to end up miserable and/or crave it until I binge or something.0 -
I have to admit right at the end I did give in to sweet cravings...I did go 11 days overdue, and it was Easter lol.
Before that I'd just make sure I ate filling meals, lots of protein. If I did have something sweet I'd make it small and fit into my calorie goal.0 -
Op you and I started at a very similar place. I'm 5'8" and was 224 prepregnancy. My doctor didn't give me any recommendations as far as weight gain but I wanted to keep it about 15 lbs. At 26 weeks I've gained 11, I'm fairly OK with that.
As for sugar cravings I eat tons of fresh fruit and I like to have a hot chocolate when I'm really craving something sweet. Like previous posters have said, protein is incredibly helpful too.0
