    We had a discussion about this some years ago and here are the drawbacks.

    - Moderation them would be HELL! You have any idea how hard it would be keep the chat rooms moderated. Links to spam websites, porn, keyloggers flying everywhere. Kids screaming and yelling at each other over nothing.

    - Content. The boards on MFP are largely used for its contents. People use it as a knowledge sharing tool. When you are on a chat room, only the people who are actually online right at that moment get to read that info unless you spam that info.

    - reduction in forum traffic. We definitely don't want that. For one, its more fun to a larger population and 2, its logged. Its there for future. In a chat room, once again, you gotta be there. But if a char room option is available, most would be opting to use the chat option and that means reduction in forum traffic and while it would give temporary benefit to some, it would really be horrible for the general traffic here.

    Isn't that what kik is for? I'm pretty sure if you're on mfp you need to have a kik account. It's in the contract.
