Does anything think that maybe the medications I'm taking for chronic pain could be affecting my weightloss? I seem to be on a continued plateau although I am doing everything right. Just thought I'd ask. I'm taking.............

Oxycontin
Nuvigil and a neaseau medicine

I have been taking these meds for several years now, I have been in the process of tapering off of them but I still need them at this time. What do you all think? I eat anywhere fom 1200-1550 calories a day with some low carb days. Exercise is about 30 minutes of cardio 4 times a week, maybe 5.

Thank you

I am suprised you are taking oxicotin for so long, I did read that when you take a strong pain killer for a long time, it can mess with you, my brother takes vicodin, has for years, and has more pain.. I told him I had read that one of the side effects of taking it so long is pain... you may be having side effects because of taking it for so long, it might be time to talk to your doctor about pain medicine alternatives.
  • i have osteoarthritis and take ibuprofen 400mg 3 times a day and co-codamol when required, i found that the more i took the co-codamol the worse pain i was in , i just use it now as a desperate measure. i also have lots of other medications i take for asthma and to protect my stomach from an ulcer from the ibuprofen i asked my doctor if they cause weight gain and he just laughed at me and said no eating to much causes weight gain.

make sure that you log all your exercise even house work you might find that you are actually eating too few calories which bizarrely causes you not to lose weight
  • I'm not a doctor and I'm not 100% sure, but yes, I do believe certain meds can affect weight loss. Sometimes they make you retain more water than what you normally do. I believe my BC was a part of this. I also know a few family members that were on some meds (blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid), that once they got off them, they felt better and their bodies started to respond again.

As for the two you are on, I'm not sure. It's something to talk about with your doctor.

My advice as well, please don't take this personally, but PLEASE be careful with Oxycontin.
  • I don't know your stats at all, but I think you probably need to bump your cardio up to an hour 4-5 times per week. Myabe start slow adding 10 minutes a couple of times per week then slowly adding.. That would probably help with burning calories as well.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your respones. As for bumping up my cardio, I'm lucky I can even do 30 minutes most days and at that, I have to force myself! LOL I'm trying though. As I build more stamina I will be able to do more soon, hopefully! I will also talk to my doctor on my next visit about the meds and not losing weight. Thanks.
