Okay so I can eat my usual breakfast today, but I'm worried about the other two meals (snacks are fine also, I can have them) I have long hours at work (like 10 hours) and I have to fit my food and workouts around that. Sometimes it isn't an issue, because I have food in the house, but today I have little more than soup. Is there any low calories food I can go to the shop and buy? I do live in England :D

Thanks <3

10 hrs is not a "long" day at work and there are plenty of options for healthy food whilst at work.

I drive for a living and sometimes work a 15 hr shift starting at 3am. I still manage to eat healthy and stay within in my 1200 calorie allowance as well as take the dog for a walk when I get home which counts towards my weekly exercise.

My tips are fruit and salads. Which are more than available in any high street, most service areas and general shops. Low calorie snacks like "go ahead" range or "snack a jacks" are good also.

You have plenty options.......... but no excuses :)

10 hours of work is a long day, minus the travel...I work in a betting shop and I actually have to use my brain constantly. I work in a bad area, so food options are limited. I refuse point blank to eat snack and jacks etc etc, I would rather pull my eyes out with spoons.

I just want a simple, pick it up and out (I could get mugged in a place like this)

Ok, this is not a competition. Just because your work day is longer doesn't mean her work day isn't long! How very silly. Anyway, to the OP, whatever you do, watch out for sodium. I got one of the light choices sandwiches at Tesco once and the sodium was ridiculous! All I can tell you is go to the prepared foods and check labels. If you don't find anything you like or that fits in with your calorie needs, pick up some fresh veggies and a pot of houmous. Watch the serving sizes for houmous, because it is high-calorie and fat, but it's yummy and they're good fats. You can always buy pre-cut carrots or celery to dip in it. You could also pick up some already-cooked chicken and a salad mix or pitta breads. It's up to you and about what you like, so get creative and eat something nice. A piece of fruit and a snack pack of nuts would go well with either of those, too.

Ok, and if you need something really quick, what about soup? Again, watch the sodium, but there are a lot of low-calorie chicken or veg soups.

I never intended my reply to come across as a competition about who worked the longest hours. All I wanted to say was no matter how long the working day there are plenty of options with regards to eating healthy through out the day.

oJoyGasmic - I see you live in Birmingham, I know B'Ham very well I'm there a lot. What part do you work in where you feel its too dangerous to venture out to a shop. I know of a few areas that are defiantly places you have to be more careful than in other areas but it sounds bad that you cant pop to a shop without the fear of being mugged.

ickybella - I love the idea of dipping in hummus, I love hummus and try to buy the low fat ones but I feel I really have to watch the calories. Salsa is a great dip too and very very low in calories.

Well im an Operations Supervisor for a major electronics store. I can understand being busy... I go to the gym before or after work to get ready or wind down after a long day. and try to pack my lunch...

But we dont live in a perfect world...

so when it comes to exercise if i cant go to the gym...

*Walk around with attitude... fast and not looking anyone in the eye to avoid being handed a task or issue.
    *Desk push ups
    *Organizing heavy boxed of paperwork.

And when lunch stays on the counter...

Peanut butter saves the day... after all it was made as a meal replacement... Just make sure you get the unsweetened reduced fat one. (keep a jar in your desk or locker)

*Hard part is finding a spoon

    *CLIFF Bars are amazing...

*Packets of protein powder you can mix with water.

    Hope that helped...
