Put that dog in the backseat
So what is it about some dog owners that they have to have their dog in their lap jumping around and barking?
I was behind a vehicle yesterday (about 4 car lengths) but could see a dog running back and forth from window to window in the front of the car. Then I saw the owner reach for the dog in the passenger's seat and consequently ended up swerving right, then fishtailing and eventually running into the center divide. The impact wasn't that hard (since the air bag didn't deploy) but it was enough to stop the car and damage the driver's front side.
Don't understand how it's still legal in most states.

Agreed, unless you have the dog seat belts in the front. I learned my lesson the hard way with my brother's dog. I'm lucky though my dog only has three legs so he justs wants to lay down in the back because standing up causes him to feel too off balanced.0

That's pretty bad if they are so out of control they cause an accident. I have four dogs and my largest one is a PITA to drive with so I get that frustration but sounds like that person should have crated or used the leash seat belt attachment.0

Im lucky that my doggy is really good in teh car, he just lays down in the footwell but i remember i looked after my cousins dog once and he barked the whole time he was in the car and the damn thing managed to escape from his harness and tried to jump in my lap. i pulled over and put his harness on extra tight i thought i may suffocate it, haha. but after that it never came in my car again0

Same could be said with children, yet they also need special seating and have to be restrained. The seatbelt law alone would be an imposed law that more than likely saves more lives from bad accidents from a few ignorant people.

What drives me CRAZY is when I'm shopping in Kohl's, Victoria's Secret, Lowe's, Macy's, and Publix and see dogs in strollers. WTH?! Why in the world would someone feel the need to put their dog in a stroller and take it shopping? To me that screams, "Look at me! I'm desperate for attention!" Leave the poor animals at home where they're safe and comfortable.
It also annoys me when I see dogs on the laps of drivers!0 -

What?? Never seen a dog in a stroller. Certainly not doing the animal any good by not allowing him to exercise.

I don't mind the strollers. Vegas is a very dog friendly and so was So Cal so I'm used to seeing dogs out and I have had my little one out shopping with me. And like someone else mentioned they are great for senior dogs or dogs with mobility issues. The only place it did bother me was Trader Joe's where a woman had two dogs in a stroller. Being it's a grocery store I did not think that was cool and they were not assistance dogs.0

I think a strapped in carrier in the car is even better.
Funny story. Over Christmas I visited my sister and her dog Ellie, and I offered to take this young galumphing Newfie for a walk. I was given one command, "leave-it" as this was a one-dog paper destructor machine. "Leave-it" did not work, so random McDonald's paper bags were shredded along our route. She may have eaten a black banana peel as well.
At the end of the walk, I decided to get my running shoes out of my car, so pulled out my car keys. Suddenly Ellie became intent, focused. That was my only warning. I opened the car, and galumph! I had a monster dog in my car. She romped between front and back seats as if her size were no impediment, none of my protests to the contrary. I finally managed to haul her out and I am sure she was convinced that I ripped her off from an Amazingly Exciting Road Trip.
I handed back leash and dog, and declared Ellie ninety percent obedient. After that walk Ellie viewed me with adoration. At least on doggy terms I must be an Amazingly Fun Human.
I thought I got away scot-free, but when I got back hubby found a drool spot on the leather passenger seat. I pled innocence.0 -
We visited Hood River in Oregon and I was charmed by the water bowls downtown, set out for companion dogs.0
