Anyone else find it odd...

humorous, ironic...that one of the main banners switching around on the top of the page is one for a $2 McDonalds cheeseburger?

I know MFP probably doesn't have control over that.

The ads are based off of your search history.

Believe me, I have never searched McDonalds. Or starbucks, or any of the other random ads that stream through. Plus 90% of my searches are with a different browser on my mobile phone, this is on my desktop that I'm hardly on.

Just install an ad blocker for your browser and they all go away.

I guess I'm getting childrens hospital ads because I recently searched for a place that took my insurance for my annual physical....but I don't have children. Getting lots of local stuff. Why don't they realize that once you've searched it, you're done. The ads are streaming on a premise that is no longer of interest to me.

At some point you searched something, and the algorithm thought McDonalds and Starbucks would be something you're interested. It doesn't have to be them directly; just something vaguely related. (And I honestly think those are common enough that everyone gets them.)

I've looked into ad blockers before. But I have no trouble with ads that are for products I don't know about, to me thats what ads should do, inform me of things I didn't know about.

Mine's for GoDaddy website...which I already have. So yes, they need to expand on the ads. Been there, done that. :)
